Yang found that despite their seeming anger, they were actually grateful for his presence because “no one else was willing to come.”
“I experienced a sudden surge of energy, and the terror in my chest appeared to go. These nurses kept things under control in block B by containing SARS and caring for the patients without thinking about their own safety. It was as if their confidence had rubbed off on me when I realised that there were people who would go to such extent for others,” Yang added.
‘Eye of the Storm’ presents several perspectives on the story through individuals like Zheng Xia and Tai-He Ang. Dr. Xia initially desires to quit the hospital. He fears contracting an infection and being separated from his loved ones. In order to avoid any circumstance that would put him in the same room as an infected individual, he too hides in a room. By the end, though, he changes his mind, especially after witnessing other patients endure misery and be left to fend for themselves because physicians and nurses have gone on strike.
In a similar spirit, there is Tai-He Ang who is so committed to his work that he assists people both when he is well and when he is ill. The Netflix film highlights the bravery, commitment, and toil of individuals like Xia and Tai-He. Despite being fictional, they stand in for the actual frontline workers who risk their lives to assist others.
