Garrett Randall From Yellowstone And His History Of on-screen Conflict With John (Kevin Costner)

Yellowstone on the Paramount Network is never short on abrupt, shocking plot turns, let alone characters who are concealing something. Given that the Dutton family is dealing with the fallout from a pretty serious attempt on the lives of patriarch John (Kevin Costner) and his two biological children, Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Beth, the show’s current Season 4 has certainly succeeded in bringing a lot to the table on both of those fronts (Kelly Reilly).

You read that properly – there are two biological children. That’s another travesty the third season of the show added to the mix, as you can see. Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), who has always been a bit of an outcast in the Dutton family, is actually adopted, as it turns out. Garrett Randall (Will Patton), Jamie’s biological father, is a grizzled ex-con who murdered Jamie’s mother, a heroin addict, when Jamie was a young child.

That would be plenty drama for one character, but as Season 4 of the neo-Western is quickly demonstrating, father Garrett appears to have a lot more tricks up his sleeve. But who precisely is this show character who may soon become powerful? Here is all the information you require for Garrett Randall in Yellowstone.

Garrett could be involved in the Duttons’ assassination attempt

Garrett Randall doesn’t have the same conflicting emotions as Jamie does regarding his adopted family and his personal goals for the Yellowstone ranch. He tells Jamie in Season 3, “The Yellowstone ain’t a ranch, it’s an empire.” His notes on seizing power over said empire are very terrifying. It’s the easiest thing in the world, he claims. You murder the king.

The suspicion that the old ex-con might be behind the attacks at the conclusion of Season 3 had lingered pretty much since the second said attacks took place. It’s simple to suppose that he’s just attempting to persuade Jamie into making a move at the other Duttons. However, “Winning of Learning,” the fourth episode of “Yellowstone” Season 4, exposes that Randall may be far more hazardous than viewers initially thought. Jamie is surprised to learn that Riggins, who has been identified as the person who may have planned the attacks against the Duttons, was once Randall’s cellmate.

Of course, this could all be a big coincidence, and Randall might actually be clueless of what his former friend has been up to. But one of the major unsolved concerns from Season 3 of “Yellowstone” relates to the direction of the Jamie-Garrett plot. Garrett has already persuaded Jamie to use Market Equities to make a move against the Duttons. It’s likely that he also made the decision to boost the ante by planning the attacks, either to assist Jamie in obtaining the ranch as a misguided act of fatherly assistance or, worse, to seize control of the situation and ascend to the throne himself. If the latter, it’s possible that the programme is covertly positioning Garrett as one of the most dangerous villains to date.

Garrett’s actor has a history with Kevin Costner

The thought of Garrett clashing with John Dutton provides delightful precedent should Garrett turn out to be a real villain. After all, the 1997 film “The Postman” gave Will Patton, who plays Garrett, a history of on-screen conflict with Kevin Costner. The action film, which Costner directed, is set in the post-apocalyptic badlands of Utah, where a mysterious government representative known only as the Postman (Costner) battles a strong militia led by General Bethlehem (Patton).

According to Rotten Tomatoes, “The Postman” has the distinction of receiving even worse reviews than fellow Costner apocalyptic drama “Waterworld,” the infamous box office flop (via Rotten Tomatoes). But it’s a big-budget movie that Costner obviously enjoys and has championed in the media (per Deseret News). As such, the casting of Patton as a possible nemesis for John Dutton could very well be a nice callback to the movie that has been largely swallowed up by the annals of time.
