Is Harlow Texas A Real Ghost Town? Where Is It Really Located?

  • DCS

The “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” adaptation from 2022 has a particularly twist-filled deadly voyage. In order to transform an abandoned Texas hamlet into a hip new neighbourhood, a group of young urban professionals first move there. Unfortunately for them, the exuberant youths unleash a terrible power that resides in the town to exact revenge.

Most of the guests are quickly dispatched by Leatherface using his reliable chainsaw. The rich urbanites suffer a horrifying end because no one can help them because they are in a deserted town. The story makes numerous references to the town of Harlow, which appears to be the scene of all the carnage. Are you trying to figure out if the town has a real-world counterpart? Let’s investigate whether Harlow is a legitimate Texas community.

Is Harlow a Real Texas Town?

Melody and Lila are shown travelling to Harlow with their pals Dante and Ruth in the opening scene of the movie. The owner of a gas station along the highway doesn’t appear very impressed by the loud young businessmen. In particular, the sheriff stops them and cautions them to “respect” the town’s heritage. Of course, it wasn’t immediately obvious if the law enforcement officer was cautioning the kids about the infamous mass murderer Leatherface.

In reality, Harlow was a real Texas town. There aren’t many similarities between the hamlet depicted on television and its real-life equivalent, but there does seem to be one standout similarity: they are both sparsely populated communities. Harlow is shown in the movie as a virtually desolate town. There were supposedly around 1300 people living there at one time, according to a rusted and decayed sign.

Apparently named after the Harlow family, the actual town of Harlow may have been founded in the late 1800s. The town appears to be made up of farmland and a business establishment on maps from the 1930s. However, it appears that Harlow stopped being shown on road maps by the 1980s, and the neighbourhood may have broken up. As a result, the fact that the real town and the one in the movie are both former towns seems to be one of their most striking similarities.

Where is Harlow Located?

Harlow was apparently located in the centre of Texas’ Hunt County until the town’s location was no longer indicated on maps. The town’s precise position seems to be just west of State Highway 34 and four miles south of Greenville.
