Yeon Sang-ho is the writer and director of the science fiction thriller “JUNG E” on Netflix. A gang of scientists are the subject of a South Korean movie set in a post-apocalyptic world where people can still live on the planet. Due to the struggle between two factions for global dominance, humanity is in danger. Scientists are developing AI-powered war robots as the last ditch effort to bring about world peace. The robots are modeled after legendary soldier Yun Jung-Yi, whose combat skills are unmatched. But as the war’s tide shifts, Jung-Yi’s legacy is put in jeopardy, and her daughter Seo-Hyun is charged with preserving her mother’s memory. Here is everything you need to know about the conclusion of “JUNG E,” in case you were wondering what happened to Seo-Hyun and Jung-Yi. SPOILERS AHEAD!
JUNG_E Plot Synopsis
Rapid climate change has rendered the world in “JUNGE E” all but uninhabitable. As a result, the majority of people have relocated to colonies on the moon known as shelters. However, a few of these shelters banded together, proclaimed themselves the Adrian Republic, and engaged the other shelters in a challenge. As a result, the Allied Forces were established, starting a protracted conflict between the two sides. Yun Jung-Yi was a renowned mercenary who helped the Allies reach the point of triumph throughout the conflict. But she bungled the last mission and slipped into a coma, prolonging the conflict.
Currently, Kronoid is a company that produces cutting-edge military equipment for the Allied Forces. The possibility of putting an end to the war depends on creating a combat AI based on Yun Jung-Yi’s neural cortex. Seo-Hyun, Yun Jung-Yi’s daughter who works for Kronoid, is in charge of the initiative to replicate her mother’s brain and turn it into a combat AI. She collaborates with Sang-Hoon, the director of technology, to run a simulation that enables them to draw Jung-Yi’s martial skills from her mind. The “JUNG E” prototype models, however, are unable to successfully clear one particular part of the simulation, leaving the final output lacking.
The story claims that Seo-Hyun had cancer and that her mother had turned mercenary in order to pay for her treatment. She botched the last mission, though, and Seo-Hyun consented to allow the Kronoid to exploit Jung-Yi’s brain for their military endeavor. Seo-Hyun eventually encounters the Chairman, the Kronoid race’s top commander. He reveals that as a peace pact is being signed between the Allied Forces and the Adrian Republic in the shelters, the conflict is coming to an end.
Seo-Hyun is told by the Chairman to stop the JUNG E program and look into alternatives. Seo-Hyun understands that Kronoid will create home robots that are powered by her mother’s brain replicants as a result. As a result, Jung-Yi’s status as a renowned combatant of the war is under jeopardy. Seo-Hyun laments her mother’s decision to enlist in the military in order to preserve her life at the same time. She ponders whether her mother ever had resentment for her. As a result, Seo-Hyun grapples with a difficult moral choice as her mother’s final memories fade away.
Sang-Hoon, on the other hand, turns out to be a robot that the Chairman built in order to produce combat AI. He reacts poorly and feels that his life’s work is being neglected when the Chairman says the JUNG E program will be discontinued. Sang-Hoon decides to prove himself and finish the program as a result. Seo-Hyun, meanwhile, is forced to witness her mother becoming a linchpin in the hands of greedy officials as a result of his pushy tactics.
Meanwhile, Seo-Hyun learns that her cancer has returned and that she is towards the end of her life. Seo-Hyun speaks with her mother’s decommissioned battle test model on the last day of the simulation. JUNG E is informed by Seo-Hyun about her background and her mother-daughter connection. She questions the test model about the last mission, which happened at the same time as Seo-Hyun’s operation. According to JUNG E, she botched the last mission because she became sidetracked by her daughter’s memory.
JUNG_E Ending: Does Seo-Hyun Save Jung-Yi?
Seo-Hyun’s attempts to prevent Kronoid from misusing her mother’s leftovers are the focus of the movie’s last act. The company wants to use Jung-Yi-based Ai for home use. When Seo-Hyun learns about her mother’s devotion and compassion for her daughter, she is moved, though. She then makes the decision to assist one of the test models in escaping in order to offer the JUNG E AI a new start. Seo-Hyun removes her daughter’s memories from JUNG E’s program before starting the last simulation. Sang-Hoon, on the other hand, tries to finish the program by accessing the newly identified region of Jung-Yi’s brain.
Despite Seo-Hyun removing the obtrusive memories, the JUNG E test model ultimately fails the simulation. Nevertheless, Seo-Hyun aids the JUNG E test model in escaping the Kronoid facility after the simulation is over. Seo-Hyun is aware that her cancer means she does not have a lot of time left to live. For the sake of the daughter, her mother had already once put her life in danger. She therefore doesn’t want the rest of her mother’s personality to meet the same fate.
In the end, Seo-Hyun and the JUNG E test model manage to leave the building, but not without first having to battle Sang-Hoon’s army and the police robots. Seo-Hyun receives a shot to the stomach during the decisive battle. She commands the robot to save herself when JUNG E tries to save her. JUNG E therefore fights Sang-Hoon in this conflict. Sang-Hoon discovers that he is just a robot built by the Chairman as they are fighting. On top of a rushing train, Sang-Hoon battles JUNG E in a fury.
In the final exchange, JUNG E triumphs over Sang-Hoon. As a result, the test robot’s internal Jung-Yi spirit triumphs and prevents it from meeting the same terrible end that it repeatedly faced in the simulation. Additionally, the brave mother is able to have a special moment with her daughter through JUNG E before making a new beginning. The heartwarming climax to the mother and daughter’s sacrificed story shows how their love overcomes all procedures, codes, and technological barriers to bring them together.
Is Seo-Hyun Dead?
JUNG E rejoins Seo-Hyun in the movie’s closing seconds after defeating Sang-Hoon. Seo-Hyun willingly gives up her life to save the robot, taking a bullet in the process. She does, however, get one last conversation with her mother before she dies. It turns out the AI still remembers Seo-Hyun despite wiping the memories of her daughter from the cortex of Jung-Yi’s robot brain duplicate. Seo-Hyun is given a loving check rub by JUNG E as they leave ways, and the mother and daughter smile as they do so.
Jung-Yi had a similar conversation with her daughter before departing on her last assignment, promising to come back to her side once the task was finished. Jung-Yi’s task has been accomplished metaphorically, and she is no longer necessary to take part in the battle. Thus, in the closing moments, Seo-Hyun’s mother makes a spiritual return to her. It is also hinted that JUNG E will always carry a piece of Seo-Hyun with him. It would also clarify why, despite Seo-Hyun wiping the memories, the robot failed the last simulation. Seo-Hyun ultimately perishes in her mother’s presence after saving what is left of Jyug-Yi inside the AI.
Seo-Hyun, on the other hand, is a world authority on brain replication and a great scientist. She may have been able to save herself with the technologies she assisted in creating. However, it is improbable that Seo-Hyun wished to follow that path herself considering the abuse of her mother’s legacy and brain. She accepts her fate as a result, and takes comfort in the fact that her mother’s legacy as a great combatant who fought valiantly in the battle still stands. In addition, the film’s dramatic conclusion, which depicts a daughter giving her life to save her mother, emphasizes the relationship between Seo-Hyun and Jung-Yi.
