Kaleidoscope on Netflix is a singular program where you can watch the episodes in any order and they will all add up to the conclusion. Despite being a thriller, the plot is constructed so that, in addition to allowing the audience to take up the action from any point in the narrative, everything is kept so expertly organized that there is never any doubt about the motivations or history of any character.
It’s a brilliant experiment that not only puts storytellers to the test but also makes the story more fascinating for the audience by keeping them guessing as to what will happen next. Backstories (Violet, Green)
At first sight, it could appear that Ray Vernon’s planned heist has only been in development for a short while. The real plot, however, starts 24 years prior to the finale’s events. In terms of chronology, the first episode of the show is Violet, in which Ray and Roger are still young and have a lot simpler lives. Ray considers giving up the life of crime for a moment because Lily, his wife, is still alive. By the time it’s through, he becomes so caught up in it that he not only loses all he valued but also has his most trusted friend turn on him. At this point, Ray begins to harbor the desire for vengeance that will surface seventeen years later.
Seven years before to the theft, Ray is discovered in the episode Green. He had spent seventeen years behind bars and shared a cell with Stan. He decides to escape prison in order to find his daughter and explain himself to her after learning that he has Parkinson’s disease. He learns that Hannah has done well for herself, but when he learns that Roger, his ex-friend, is Hannah’s employer, old scars reopen. Given the importance of his daughter’s job, he chooses to hit Roger where it will hurt him the most.
Planning the Heist (Yellow, Orange, Blue)
Ray had been patiently waiting for seven years. Hannah, with whom he collaborates, earns Roger’s trust and confides in her father about all business-related secrets. When he learns that the Triplets—the three richest, most eminent, and influential persons in the world—are entrusting Roger with bonds worth billions of dollars, the moment has come to put the plan into action. Six weeks prior to the robbery, he is seen in the episode Yellow reconnecting with Stan and assembling a team to carry out his elaborate scheme.
In the episode Orange, the action takes place three weeks prior to the heist, and the crew is forced to carry out a smaller robbery in order to get funds for the larger heist. By this point, the crew has already encountered issues like Bob hurting one of his hands, which prevented him from opening the locks on his own, and Ava receiving a warning from Abassi, which has major repercussions for them. The team decides to carry out the strategy regardless of the outcome since they still have optimism.
Five days prior to the robbery, in episode Blue, Roger Salas finds the backdoor in his system and closes it, rendering Ray and his gang unable to access the vault. It appears as though they are all lost for a while. Ray then devises the strategy to flood the vaults as the hurricane approaches. In the season finale, White, Ray and his team are implementing a plan that appears to have more chances of failing than succeeding. To put it mildly, things don’t go as any of them had anticipated.
After the Heist (Red, Pink)
In the Red episode, with every aspect of the robbery having gone wrong, there are just four crew members left for us to watch the next morning. In the aftermath, Roger Salas makes an effort to rescue the circumstance while being fully aware of how badly it has gone wrong and how much it will damage his life. Ray, Ava, Judy, and Stan struggle to stay alive while wondering who had betrayed whom and where the relationships they had fought so hard to create had gone. They leave New York with a lot of unanswered questions since they did more harm than they had anticipated, especially to themselves. The story isn’t over yet, though.
The final episode of “Kaleidoscope,” dubbed “Pink,” finds the crew six months after the heist’s events. Others are more concerned with retaliation while some are barely surviving. Additionally, we discover Ray Vernon, who is already in poor condition, being approached by Roger Salas. This episode concludes the entire narrative, and the conclusion is, to put it mildly, bloody. The goals and motives that previously drove the characters are brought into play. No one escapes it undamaged, not the bad guys nor the good guys. This is by far the most horrific episode, and in some ways, it serves as a fitting conclusion.
