In 2016, Todd and Julie Chrisley legally adopted Chloe Chrisley, Kyle Chrisley’s biological daughter. This made the Chrisley family even bigger than it was before.
Kyle is still in the picture, but he was the first to say that he wasn’t the best dad. His problems with the law and his drug use made it hard for him to take care of his own child, so Todd and Julie took over raising Chloe. Kyle wrote in a 2019 Facebook post, “I haven’t been the best dad to Chloe.” I’ve had a drug problem and acted like a fool, and they [Todd and Julie] have always been there for me.” It turns out that Chloe’s biological mum, Angela Johnson, has not been a great parent, either. In the podcast “Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley,” she talked about how Johnson pretty much ignored the child from the beginning. “This child came to us from her biological mother, and she had been starved half the time and wasn’t clean. She once came to us with a burn on her chest, and we had to take her to the doctor. All of these things were written down.”
But in December 2022, after Todd and Julie were given long prison sentences, Johnson suddenly showed up and took steps to get custody back. Where had she been all this time?
Angela Johnson lost custody of Chloe due to fraud
Angela Johnson and Kyle Chrisley broke up, but Johnson still shared custody of Chloe Chrisley with Todd and Julie Chrisley. But she was adamant that Kyle should never be involved because he hurt her physically when she was still carrying Chloe.
She told Life & Style, “He grabbed me and choked me when I was pregnant.” “Once, when he was mad at me, he came at me with a knife while I was holding Chloe. He was talking about stabbing me, then threw a bottle of pills and hit me and Chloe right in the face with them.” She also said that Kyle only pretends to care about raising their child. “Kyle says he wants Chloe, but he really wants money,” they said, but Kyle said, “She’s crazy. I don’t want money; I want my daughter.”
But in 2016, Johnson lost all rights to Chloe because she had lied about being Chloe’s mother. Real Mr. Housewife said that she had been arrested after it was found that she was still claiming Chloe as a dependant, even though she had lost custody of her, in order to get Medicaid benefits and food stamps. At the time, Chloe was already living with the Chrisleys, so they decided to ignore the problem. They said, “We don’t know anything about this and it doesn’t affect us.”
Todd and Julie Chrisley were found guilty, so Angela Johnson didn’t waste any time trying to get Chloe Chrisley back. She told TMZ that she was “in the process of getting some legal papers filed so I can go back to court and get Chloe back home.” She also said that while she was missing for years, she was “talking to attorneys and we were trying to figure out how to get Chloe.”
Todd, for his part, was upset that Johnson showed up out of the blue. “It’s funny that her biological mother would come forward now, when she hasn’t been in her life since 2015,” Todd said on the “Chrisley Confessions” podcast. “Angela Johnson gave up her parental rights in March 2017, and we never heard from her again.” He said that Johnson “voluntarily ended her rights” as a parent when she went before the judge and gave up all of her rights as a parent. He also said that the Chrisley family tried to help Johnson financially by giving her a car, a condo, and tuition money so she could finish nursing school, but Johnson seems to have thrown it all away.
Even if Johnson was able to get the case to court, Chrisley family lawyer Jessica Doyle told People that it wouldn’t help. “Through adoption, Todd and Julie Chrisley are Chloe’s legal parents, not just her guardians,” she said. “I’ve looked over what Angela Johnson has said in public, and it’s clear that none of what she’s said is true or even legal.”
