New ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ Set Images Show Off Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn Costume

Due to scheduling issues while filming Joker: Folie à Deux, Lady Gaga very nearly lost her chance to attend at the Academy Awards two weeks ago. She unexpectedly attended the show to perform her Oscar-nominated song from Top Gun: Maverick, and then she hurried back to the Todd Phillips movie set to resume production.

And now, thanks to these fresh set photographs shared on Twitter by Popbase, we have a fresh look at Gaga dressed as Harley Quinn. It was just a matter of time before the singer and her co-star Joaquin Phoenix were spotted in character because the movie is presently filming near New York City and Newark.

The images show Gaga entering a courthouse while being escorted by police officers, with a swarm of protesters around her Harley. These pictures give us our first decent look at Harley Quinn, who was memorably portrayed by Margot Robbie in an earlier Phillips portrait that showed the character without the Joker makeup.joker 2,lady gaga harley quinn costume

Folie à Deux Will Be A “Full Blown Musical”

The film, which takes place after the riotous conclusion of Joker, in which Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck fully embraces the craziness of the Joker, has been dubbed “a full-blown musical” by Phillips, however little is known about the plot. As a “Elseworlds” project, the film will be set outside the timeline of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebuilt universe, just like Matt Reeves’ The Batman. It will also exist outside of James Gunn’s new DC Universe.

Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin), Catherine Keener (Being John Malkovich), Jacob Lofland (Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials), and Harry Lawtey will appear alongside Gaga in the sequel (Industry). The only actress to far who has been confirmed to reprise their part from the first movie (besides Phoenix) is Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), who plays Arthur’s Sophie, or, for want of a better description, his “love interest.” Scott Silver and Phillips, who previously served as both a director and a screenwriter, are both back. Hildur Gunadóttir, the original film’s composer who earned an Oscar Award, will also make a comeback.

Joker was a phenomenally profitable success. Phoenix did win the Best Actor Oscar, despite the film’s negative reviews, and it made over $1 billion at the box office. On October 4, 2024, exactly five years to the day after the premiere of the first movie, Folie à Deux is scheduled for release. See the fresh pictures below:
