‘Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman’ is a suspense thriller that follows the titular serial killer — the first female to be identified as one in the United States — as she commits murders shortly after landing in Florida. After all, it’s no secret that Aileen sought to seize every opportunity that came her way, but she did it in a harsh and nasty manner that cost her several personal connections. One of them is the one she had with her husband, Lewis Gratz Fell, and we now have the details for you if you want to learn more about it.
Did Aileen Wuornos Kill Her Husband?
Lewis Gratz Fell (born June 28, 1907 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Robert Gratz Fell and Florence Biddle Addams) was living comfortably in Florida when he met 20-year-old Aileen Wuornos in 1976. At the time, the 69-year-old was the president of a local yacht club, indicating that he was not only wealthy but also a member of the state’s upper crust. Despite his life experiences, though, the father of one was soon smitten with the much younger Aileen and rushed to the altar, only for things to take a far more drastic turn.
Lewis and Aileen’s wedding was announced in the local newspaper’s society section, thereby ensuring that her wild conduct in surrounding businesses, including one that resulted in her imprisonment for assault, had an impact on him as well. But, as if it wasn’t enough to highlight their stormy relationship, she also snatched her husband’s cane and whacked him with it on a fateful day shortly after they married, as depicted in the film.
Lewis, thankfully, survived the incident and quickly obtained a restraining order against his wife, only for their marriage to be annulled on July 21, 1976. The couple, who had supposedly merely joined together for mutual gain — she Aileen wanting money and him wanting a beautiful wife by his side — was only formally married for nine weeks. There was nothing more or less to their relationship than these months, as far as we can tell.
