“65” is a sci-fi thriller that was made by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. It is set in the past and has some futuristic elements. This 2023 movie with Adam Driver and Ariana Greenblatt is about a Commander Pilot in space named Mills. When a spaceship on an exploration mission crashes on an unknown planet, killing a lot of people, only Mills and a young girl named Koa are left alive. As Mills tries to send a message to his command station on Earth, he soon realises that he and Koa are not the only ones on this strange planet.
They also find out that the planet might not be as unknown as he first thought. Mills and Koa are thrown back in time and have to fight dangerous dinosaurs and figure out how to get home. If you liked the action-packed sci-fi movie “65” and want to see more movies like it with interesting plots and likeable characters, here are some suggestions. Most of these movies are like “65.” You can find them on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu.
A Quiet Place (2018)
“The Quiet Place” is a scary thriller that takes place in a world after the end of the world. John Krasinski is the director of this movie, which he also stars in with his wife, Emily Blunt. Most of the people on Earth are killed after bloodthirsty aliens with better hearing take over. Even the sound of a leaf crunching is enough to alert these aliens, who then kill everyone nearby.
In a quiet part of New York, Lee and Evelyn Abbot are trying to keep their children alive while living in silence.
Both “65” and “A Quiet Place” were written by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. The plots of both movies are also about surviving in the face of a dangerous animal.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012)
Brad Peyton is the director of the action-adventure film Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. This movie is the follow-up to 2008’s “Journey to the Center of the Earth.” It stars Dwayne Johnson, Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens, and others. The plot is about Sean and his stepfather Hank, who go on a trip to a mysterious island in search of Sean’s long-lost grandfather.
The group is caught in a tornado with their helicopter pilot Gabato and his daughter Kailani. They crash land on an island. In “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,” just like in “65,” the characters get stuck in a strange land. The relationship between Mills and Koa is similar to the one between Sean and Hank. Lastly, this movie doesn’t have dinosaurs like the one from 1965, but it does have big lizards, which is pretty close.
Jurassic Park (1993)
Jurassic Park is the first movie in a series of movies. It is a classic dinosaur movie based on the same-named book by Michael Crichton. This sci-fi action movie is led by Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill. It was directed by Steven Spielberg. The movie is about a theme park where dinosaurs made from ancient DNA have been cloned. John Hammond, who made the theme park, invites scientists Malcolm, Sattler, and Grant to the park for a tour to prove that it is safe.
But things start to go wrong when a T-Rex gets out of its cage and attacks the group. This movie has interesting characters and an exciting plot with lots of action. It is still one of the most important movies ever made. If the dinosaurs were the best part of ’65 for you, you will love this movie (and others from its franchise).
Logan (2017)
James Mangold is in charge of the action drama “Logan,” which is the last part of the “Wolverine” trilogy and a continuation of the “X-men” movie series. This Hugh Jackman movie is about Logan, also known as Wolverine, who is worn out and meets Laura, a young mutant who shares his DNA. Like ’65,’ ‘Logan’ is about a relationship between a father and his daughter. Both father and daughter find themselves in life-threatening situations. If you liked that part of ’65 and want to see another action-packed sci-fi like it, ‘Logan’ is a great choice.
Oblivion (2013)
“Oblivion” is a post-apocalyptic action-adventure movie with Tom Cruise that was directed by Joseph Kosinski. The story of Jack Harper is told in the movie. Jack Harper is one of the only people left on Earth after a war with an alien race made the planet unlivable. But when his mission is over, he will leave for a human colony on the moon Titan. At least, that’s the plan until he meets a woman named Julia, who makes him start to doubt everything he’s ever known to be true. Both “65” and “Oblivion” are interesting sci-fi movies with plots that take big turns for the main characters.
Planet of the Apes (2001)
Tim Burton directed “Planet of the Apes,” which is part of a huge series of movies with the same name. It looks at the idea of an ape-run society with Mark Wahlberg and Helena Bonham Carter in the main roles. In this movie, an astronaut named Leo crashes onto the planet Ashlar. On Ashlar, smart apes are in charge, and humans are their slaves.
When Leo finds the wreckage of his old space station on the same planet, he realises that he has gone back in time and that Ashalr is a very different Earth from the one he left. This movie is also about going back in time. In turn, the time travel part affects the main characters of both movies in similar and different ways. If you want a movie like “65” but don’t like dinosaurs, “Planet of the Apes” is a good choice.
The Land That Forgot Time (1974)
The movie “The Land That Forgot Time” is based on a book by Edgar Rice Burroughs with the same name. This fantasy adventure takes place during World War I, and Kevin Connor is in charge of it. After a fight between British and German ships, a group of survivors are left on a place called Caprona that they don’t know anything about. In this land, dinosaurs and other animals from the past live with primitive people.
The German and British people who are still alive must now work together to stay alive and get off this island. Even though the dinosaurs in this movie look a lot different than the ones in ’65, which were made with CGI, ‘The Land That Forgot Time’ is still a classic dinosaur movie with an interesting plot. If you liked the “survival against the prehistoric” part of the movie “65,” you might also like “The Land That Forgot Time.”
Turok: Son of The Stone (2008)
“Turok: Son of the Stone” is an animated adventure movie for adults based on a Western Publishing comic book with the same name. The characters and settings come from that comic book. Curt Geda, Dan Riba, Frank Squillace, and Tad Stones are the people in charge of it. The main character of this movie is Toruk, a Native American warrior who finds an island full of prehistoric animals. Both Toruk and Hills from ’65 have to deal with dinosaurs and keep their loved ones alive at the same time. “Toruk: Son of the Stone” might be what you’re looking for if you want something like “65” but without all the space technology.
