Ethan and Devi: A Short-Lived Romance
Following Paxton’s graduation from Sherman Oaks High School, Ethan becomes the next popular student. Eleanor becomes intrigued by him as his attractiveness unexpectedly increases. After splitting from Trent, she discusses pursuing Ethan with Devi and Fabiola. While Devi agrees that Ethan is attractive, she avoids him, and Fabiola has no interest in boys. But when their paths happen to cross, Ethan shows interest in her.
Devi’s automobile is vandalized in the first episode. She initially thinks it was Margot, Ben’s girlfriend. Since Ben left Devi for Margot, they had been at odds, and Devi had made some harsh remarks about her. Devi discovers later that Ethan was the one who damaged her automobile. She observes that he writes the letter “t” in the same style as the vandal. When she approaches him about it, he admits that he thought her automobile belonged to a teacher who had given him a failing grade. Devi says that if he doesn’t pay for repairs, he will destroy his skateboard. Ethan finds her aggressiveness attractive. When he arrives at her house with paint remover, he informs her about it.
Devi considers dating Ethan after first not giving it much attention due to his interest in her. In a dream she has about him, she also comes to the realization that dating Ethan would mean betraying Eleanor, who is trying to get Ethan to date her. Devi chooses to give up on her relationship with Ethan since she is more in love with Eleanor. At a party, Ethan gives her a kiss and keeps flirting with her. Devi is informed by Eleanor, who discovers them, that Ethan kissed her just moments before kissing Devi.
Devi and Eleanor make the decision to avoid Ethan after realizing he had tricked them. Eleanor eventually lets Devi have Ethan after giving up on him. Ethan also admits to like Devi. Because of his glow-up, he had begun to attract attention from girls and had grown conceited about it, which is why he had kissed Eleanor. Devi accepts his invitation to date and he makes a vow to stay away from other girls.
Devi and Ethan go on dates for the next several months. In addition to concentrating on getting into Princeton, she enjoys a fulfilling sexual connection with Ethan, which is why she started seeing him in the first place. She eventually learns, though, that Ethan is not the kind of person she should be in the long run. Jennifer Warner, her counselor, notes that Ethan could cause Devi Princeton to become distracted. Devi reassures her that she can manage both a terrible boy and college at the same time.
Afterwards, Eleanor and Fabiola also make the observation that Ethan is a horrible person in addition to being a bad boy. Devi’s future may be at risk if she stays with him because he has a tendency to do things that will get him into problems eventually. When things go bad, they promise to help her out of this relationship. Devi, though, is certain that Ethan is not all that horrible. When Ethan tries to assist her with the Princeton rep, she proves her point. Devi asks Akshara to give her another shot after cutting the line and blowing her opportunity. When Ethan arrives for lunch, they start talking. Devi fears he could say something inappropriate. Rather, he exalts Devi, winning over Akshara as well.
Devi is shown incorrectly when she finds out that Ethan took Akshara’s pocketbook, just as she was beginning to believe that people might not have misinterpreted Ethan and that he wasn’t a bad man. He does not express regret for his actions when she confronts him. Devi acknowledges that her friends and college advisor are correct. Devi’s chances could be ruined if Akshara found out. Devi’s job was put in jeopardy by Ethan. She therefore makes the decision to break up with Ethan and end their relationship.
