Another day, another outrageous film sequence goes viral on TikTok. Nocturnal Animals, a 2016 Tom Ford film, has a startling opening scene that has gone viral on the app as users compete to record their “blind responses.”
I’m not sure what viewers of the thriller starring Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal anticipated when they clicked play on the TikTok video, but it most definitely wasn’t a group of scantily clad ladies dancing to classical music while holding American flags and pom poms.

On October 12, @ohmandy86 of TikTok posted a video that started the trend. She commands, “Stop what you’re doing right now.” “Visit Netflix, search for Nocturnal Animals, and record the opening sequence. Please let’s duet. I’m curious to see how everyone responds. The Nocturnal Animals hashtag on the app has now received over 36.4 million views, so it goes without saying that people have followed her advise ever since.

Although it’s unknown how many of these TikTok users persisted past the first scene, Nocturnal Animals’ nearly two-hour length is filled with surprises. The majority of the plot revolves around Susan (Adams), the owner of an art gallery, who is battling her neglectful second husband Armie Hammer’s frequent travels when she unexpectedly receives a disturbing manuscript from her estranged ex-husband Edward (Gyllenhaal) that unsettlingly reflects their former relationship.
You can watch Nocturnal Animals on Netflix right now if you’re interested in experiencing its startling opening sequence and eerie narrative. And if you feel like it, why not record your own response?
