The major roles of Shrek (Michael Meyers), Fiona (Cameron Diaz), and Donkey (Eddie Murphy) are voiced by a number of very well-known actors, whether you grew up watching the “Shrek” films or fell in love with them as an adult while watching them with some children.
However, they are not the only animated characters in DreamWorks’ land of fairy tales, which currently consists of several spin-offs and specials in addition to four main films. For instance, according to IMDb, Puss in Boots is spoken by Antonio Banderas, the Fairy Godmother is voiced by Jennifer Saunders, and Princess Fiona’s parents, the King and Queen of Far, Far Away, are voiced by John Cleese and Julie Andrews.
You might be wondering who portrays Prince Charming in “Shrek 2” given the abundance of distinctive voices in the sequel to the animated series. You’re in luck though, since we can finally identify the charming cartoon gentleman whose voice Fiona fell for.
Prince Charming in Shrek 2 is voiced by Rupert Everett
In “Shrek 2,” the title character and Princess Fiona are blissfully married and residing in their swamp home when they are given the opportunity to become human, albeit it is later discovered that this opportunity was given under questionable circumstances. In fact, it would have resulted in Fiona leaving Shrek and getting married to Prince Charming, who we discover is the child of the ostensibly kind but very cunning Fairy Godmother.
And British hunk Rupert Everett is the actor contributing his voice to the handsome, if rather nefarious, Prince Charming (formerly known as Charming Fortuna, per Fandom). IMDb states that Everett began acting in the 1980s and has since been in a number of television programmes, miniseries, and motion pictures. His best-known roles include George Downes in the 1997 movie “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and the tragic Secundus in the 2007 film “Stardust.” He most recently made appearances as Carroll Quinn in the TV series “Adult Material” and Bernardo Gui in “The Name of the Rose.”
Rupert Everett has played Prince Charming in Shrek 2 and other chapters of the franchise
Rupert Everett hasn’t just portrayed Prince Charming in “Shrek 2,” as noted by Fandom. In the films “Shrek the Third,” “Shrek Forever After,” “Far, Far Away Idol,” and “Thriller Night,” he also provided the voice for the character. And judging by what Everett said to MovieWeb in 2007: “I’ve loved every minute of it,” “It’s a fantastic role for me to portray. Fun is had.”
He also enjoys the “Shrek” series in general, thus the astronomical success of each movie is not surprising to him. Everett stated to the source, “They are excellent films, in my opinion. They are wonderful. They succeed in becoming kid-friendly. They succeed in catering to adults. They are endearing and understated but also rather meaningful. This movie is excellent on every level.”
We can only hope that Everett will appear in more fairy tales in the future!
