Who Is Supersonic In The Boys? What Exactly Are His Powers?

The third season of “The Boys,” like most of its first two seasons, is not for the faint of heart since it has a completely insane plot and moments that will stick in your head for a very long time. This season covers a lot of ground, including Soldier Boy’s comeback (Jensen Ackles), Homelander (Antony Starr) becoming Homelander on metaphorical steroids, and the titular lads having to cope with the same old issues in distinctly different ways.

Naturally, a number of new supers have been introduced, as there are now multiple openings in The Seven after the departures of Stormfront and The Deep. Supersonic (Miles Gaston Villanueva), also known as Drummer Boy in comic books, is one of them. He can be seen competing on the reality TV programme “American Hero,” the winner of which joins The Seven. Given that this is Vought and that the majority of reality shows are scripted, it stands to reason that the entire “American Hero” competition is also heavily biassed.

Supersonic’s introduction begs the issues of how he fits into the main plot and what kind of relationship he has with his ex-girlfriend Starlight (Erin Moriarty).

Former leader of the Young Americans

Cameron Coleman’s Tucker Carlson spoof “Seven on 7” teased Supersonic’s character in the third season of “The Boys” promotional materials. This news segment focuses on the activities of the Seven and the other superheroes under the authority of Vought. One such report mentions Supersonic, who is said to be staging a significant comeback. It is implied that Supersonic once used drugs, but he now uses the Global Wellness Center at Vought to improve and create a new image that has helped him rise through the popularity rankings.

Supersonic’s past is not discussed in great detail in Season 3, although it is implied that he has lost his prior reputation as a teen idol and is working hard to earn his keep on “American Hero.” He may have previously struggled with Compound V abuse, which hints at subtle similarities to A-Train (Jessie Usher), who went insane while using V and launched the show’s whole plot after running right through Robin in season 1.

Drummer Boy, a fictional comic book character created by Garth Ennis, and Starlight were teammates in the Young Americans, a gang of young superheroes, and Drummer Boy was the inspiration for Supersonic. Drummer Boy is largely unknown, apart from the fact that he cheated on Starlight with fellow group member Holy Mary. The couple had split up after Starlight witnessed them having sexual relations. The first three episodes of “The Boys” do not explore these parts of the relationship (the cheating part).

‘Baby, baby, baby, got your license to drive…’

Drummer Boy in the comics was known to have the typical qualities bestowed by V, such as tremendous stamina, strength, and speed. Supersonic does not appear to have any particular skills in “The Boys,” other than the ability to perform dance routines and sing songs that were popular when he was a member of the boy band Super Sweet. While he does have some sick moves when he performs “Got Your License to Drive (Me Crazy)” on Homelander’s birthday, it is not something a skilled human performer cannot do.

Having been selected as a show finalist, Supersonic will finally be offered a slot in the Seven (the Vought employees see it as a chance to win over the Latino community, so that they can widen their influence across this demographic). Starlight is aware that this would put Supersonic under Homelander’s permanent control, who is acting out of privilege as a nearly unstoppable superhero and an entitled white guy this season. Homelander is especially irrational this season. Most of the time, Supersonic and Starlight’s relationship is sweet since they genuinely care about one another.

A super love triangle?

Since Hughie (Jack Quaid) is insecure and afraid of losing Annie, it is clear that he is anxious about Supersonic being nearby. Of course, there’s nothing to be concerned about, and although Homelander publicly chooses to promote the notion that he and Starlight are in love, Vought pulls off an even greater ruse in order to boost public ratings. Along with making The Deep once more appear in the Seven to further traumatise Starlight, he makes her put up with his terrible treatment both in front of and behind the camera.

Supersonic isn’t the best candidate for the Seven, but if a scoundrel like The Deep can make a comeback, a charming ex-boyband performer can undoubtedly join the band. Supersonic, however, had better keep an eye on himself because he has no idea how risky it is to be so near to Homelander, who is capable of snapping at any time for, quite honestly, any reason.

Prime Video presently has the first three episodes of “The Boys” available for viewing.
