Netflix’s The Glory Ending, Explained: Does Dong-eun Get Her Revenge?

  • DCS

The Glory is a South Korean revenge drama series on Netflix that was written by Kim Eun-sook. The narrative centers on Moon Dong-eun (Song Hye-kyo), a high school student who must put up with violent bullying from her classmates. Even contacting the teachers and police is ineffective because Dong-eun comes from a low-income family whereas the families of the tormentors are wealthy. Dong-eun drops out of school after her own mother betrays her for money and spends several years only thinking about getting even with those who either tortured her or attempted to hide the abuse she endured. She finally earns a teaching credential and starts teaching Park Yeon-jin’s daughter’s homeroom. Beyond their haughtiness and affluence, her erstwhile bullies recognize that their time has come to face the music when she finally makes her presence known.

School violence and retaliation are the primary themes of “The Glory.” The narrative also heavily emphasizes class conflict. Actually, the fundamental reason Yeon-jin and her lackeys torture Dong-eun is the disparity between the tormentors and their victims. Here is all the information you could need to know on The Glory, Part 1’s conclusion. Spoilers follow.

The Glory Recap

The first episode of the series takes place in 2022, when Dong-eun buys an apartment next to Yeon-jin’s family’s home. There is a scenario where the two women are in conflict with one another. Given how much less violent their actual reunion, which takes place a few episodes later, is, Dong-eun is most likely imagining it. The story then goes back to 2004, when Dong-eun, a high school student, decided enough was enough of the harassment and the teachers’ lack of response, and she contacted the authorities. She learns, however, that the laws differ for the wealthy and the poor, particularly if the officer you are complaining to was a childhood friend of your bully’s mother. Only after informing their parents are Yeon-jin and her friends released. When Dong-eun tries to complain to the principle, the homeroom teacher arrives to pick her up and severely abuses her.

Dong-eun was truly put through hell by Yeon-jin and her friends. They violently beat her and used curling irons to burn her flesh, leaving permanent scars. Because Yeon-jin’s family has paid off the elder woman, Dong-eun is unable to even confront her mother. Dong-eun goes home one day only to find her mother has left. Only the school nurse speaks up for Dong-eun, and even then, she is made to resign.

Dong-eun eventually quits school and spends the subsequent 17 years getting ready. She allows the desire for vengeance to rule her mind, making it the only thing she thinks about. When Dong-eun was little, she dreamed of becoming an architect. She resolves to give up that aspiration on the altar of her revenge and pursue a career in education in order to be Yeon-jin’s daughter’s homeroom instructor.

In the meantime, Yeon-jin and at least some of her pals successfully attained their goals. Yeon-jin and Chairman Ha Do-yeong of Jaepyeong Construction are married, and the two of them have a daughter named Ye-sol. In addition to running his father’s golf course, Jeon Jae-joon is a skilled artist named Lee Sa-ra. The two that are left are a different tale. Due to their parents’ lack of riches, Choi Hye-jeon and Son Myeong-o never truly fit in with their friends. as grownups. Myeong-o is Jae-joon’s valet, while Hye-jeon works as a flight attendant.

Yeon-jin and her pals are first unnerved when they learn that Dong-eun has returned, but they keep underestimating her. Kang Hyeon-nam, an abused wife, is hired by Dong-eun to assist her in gathering information about her past tormentors. She agrees to kill her spouse in return. Dong-eun notices that she is becoming more intimate with Ju Yeo-jeong (Lee Do-hyun), a plastic surgeon who has seen his own set of traumas, as all of this is going on. The crazy patient he saved from killing his father has plagued him ever since. He agrees to assist Dong-eun after she tells him the truth about herself.

In episode 8, Jae-joon starts to move after realizing the facts regarding Ye-sol. In another scene, Yeon-jin discovers the scope of Dong-eun’s scheme and is compelled to make amends with her past.

The Glory Ending: Who Killed Son Myeong-o?

The death of Son Myeong-o, which occurs near the end of episode 5, is arguably the subject of the most unresolved issues in “The Glory.” Dong-eun and the man in issue come to an understanding despite the fact that she holds him equally accountable for the mistreatment she endured as a young woman as anybody else. Myeong-o agrees to Dong-eun’s plan to eliminate most of his buddies despite the fact that she despises him just as much as the rest.

Not the first girl they mistreated was Dong-eun. Yoon So-hee reportedly committed suicide in 2004 after being subjected to intense bullying by Yeon-jin and her companions. Myeong-o is led to believe by Dong-eun that So-hee’s body is still in the morgue despite the fact that it was previously processed in 2004. She persuades him that Yeon-jin murdered So-hee, and that he may profit from that. However, Myeong-o shows up dead by the conclusion of episode 5, and Yeon-jin’s involvement in his murder is strongly hinted at. Hye-jeon has little motivation to murder Myeong-o, despite the fact that both he and Yeon-jin own the shoes we see on the murderer’s feet. Yeon-jin, on the other hand, has a closet full of dark secrets.

In any case, Dong-eun indirectly contributes to Myeong-o’s demise by persuading him that So-hee’s body is still in the morgue. Myeong-o has the Latin phrase “Memento Mori,” which translates to “Remember that You Must Die,” tattooed on his neck. Myeong-o used to cover the tattoo when he was younger with an I-shaped bandage. The tattoo appears to indicate “Me I Mori,” which is Spanish for “I die,” to Dong-eun, who had Spanish studies at the time.

For Dong-eun, Myeong-o had always been a disposable tool. Even though she didn’t directly cause his death, she is nevertheless accountable for it. Myeong-o’s life was the only thing he had that was even vaguely worth, and she eventually snatches it away from him.

Does Ha Do-yeong Know the Truth About Ye-sol?

Go, an abstract strategy board game, is mentioned in the show’s plot. Its inclusion in the opening sequence itself emphasizes its thematic significance. In Go, a player achieves victory by encircling the stones of the opposition. Dong-eun intends to do just that with Yeon-jin in order to deprive the other woman of everything. Yeo-jeong teaches Go to Dong-eun, who then uses his passion for the game to woo Do-yeong. While a sexual relationship between them isn’t a given, she has the ability to seriously harm Yeon-jin and his marriage.

Dong-eun discovers that Jae-joon is Ye-sol’s biological father and arranges events so that he learns about it, upsetting Yeon-jin’s life. After learning what his wife had done to the other woman and recognizing that he is caught in the middle of a conflict between Dong-eun and Yeon-jin, Do-yeong confronts Dong-eun in episode 8. Dong-eun currently possesses all the cards. The paternity of Ye-sol is, of course, the most significant of all. Do-yeong visits his wife as part one comes to a close after she broke into Dong-eun’s apartment and discovered her vengeance board. Do-yeong most certainly already knows that Dong-eun isn’t Ye-Sol’s father. Power comes from knowledge. Dong-eun can drive Yeon-jin away from one of her primary sources of wealth by informing Do-yeong of this.

Dong-eun has come a long way in this regard by the end of part 1 of “The Glory.” Myeong-o is also dead, and she is the one who kills her former homeroom teacher at the hands of his own kid. Yeon-jin’s life is inevitably going to fall apart. I believe it is safe to assume that she will exact her vengeance, but at a price she won’t be able to endure. Dong-eun appears to have some awareness of her impending doom and has probably come to terms with it. She sees nothing but retribution as her only option. We can, however, only hope against hope that, with Yeo-jeong in her life, she may eventually achieve some measure of serenity.
