A handful of scenes were taken in actual desert areas because the movie’s plot is set in the Mojave Desert. The area is renowned for its eerie scenery and harsh environment, making it the ideal setting for a horror movie.
The Mojave Desert, so named after the local Mojave people, lies between the Transverse Ranges and the southern Sierra Nevada mountains. In a statement, The Outwaters filmmaker Robbie Banfitch discussed his experiences filming in the Mojave Desert.
He stated, “It [The Outwaters] was shot in the dark, in the dust, and along the Mojave’s sand-covered roadways. I will remember this filming as one of the happiest periods of my life and am proud of what our cast and crew did together.
Death Valley, California
North of the Mojave Desert in California, there is another desert called Death Valley. It is reputed to be the planet’s hottest location. Some significant desert sequences were being filmed in the valley by the cast and crew of the movie. Star Wars, Blade, and War for the Planet of the Apes were among the earlier movies to be filmed there.
