Ty Lee In Avatar: Interesting Things You Should Already Know About Ty Lee

Even though Avatar: The Last Airbender is done, fans will still discuss about the show. The audience still has a lot to learn, and fans already know even more than that. Of course, there are details regarding the primary characters that every fan should be aware of. But there are also many supporting characters that are all too frequently ignored.

One of those figures is Ty Lee. It’s unfortunate that some fans don’t pay attention to the character because she stands out among her Fire Nation colleagues, even in her small group of three, and for good reason. Without further ado, here are some details about Ty Lee that every fan should be aware of.

September 22, 2020 revision Through Amanda Bruce: Ten facts about Ty Lee are simply insufficient. Even though she spends much of her time in the anime series as Azula’s sidekick, she has more to offer than just supporting the Fire Nation princess, and her involvement in the franchise continues even after Azula is imprisoned. This list now includes even more details about Ty Lee that go beyond her time spent by the princess’ side.

A Friendship With Toph

Toph Beifong and Ty Lee did develop an unexpected relationship after the events of the anime series, despite the fact that they didn’t interact much while they were on opposing sides of the fight for the majority of it.

Ty Lee expressed her dissatisfaction with her post-war life in the comics that continued where the show left off. She took Toph to a circus show to serve as a reminder of her past existence. She was shocked to see that her sisters were imitating her by performing an acrobatic routine. To help her feel less out of place, Toph then escorted her to further displays.

Azula’s Friend

The fact that Azula made the effort to find Ty Lee speaks volumes about how much Azula truly valued Ty Lee. In fact, there’s a decent probability Ty Lee was the closest thing Azula ever had to a true friend in her mind. She greeted the girl with genuine emotion, which she did not even display with Mai. It demonstrates that Azula did indeed possess a heart someplace.

To be fair, it seemed impossible to meet Ty Lee and dislike her, therefore it is understandable why Azula felt this way about the former performer from the circus.

Chi Blocking

One of Ty Lee’s most dreaded assaults was her capacity to block chi, which prevented targets from bending or even moving. Ty Lee demonstrated her ability to paralyse someone with particular moves multiple times throughout the series (albeit thankfully, this is only temporary).

She developed into a serious threat in her own right, despite the fact that she was obviously unwilling to try to kill any of her adversaries. Probably because of this, Azula wanted her back (the chi blocking, not the unwillingness to commit murder).

Choosing A Side

Ty Lee was forced to choose a side after Mai betrayed Azula in order to preserve Zuko’s life. If she had stayed out of the conflict, there’s a chance that no one would have died; instead, she might have just let things go on as they were. With Azula, however, there is a fair possibility that the conflict would have resulted in either a fatality or incarceration. In order to save her companions, Ty Lee had to make a decision.

She chose Mai. Ty Lee was consequently imprisoned. Naturally, it also brought an end to her friendship with Azula. For the reasons outlined above, Azula was more devastated by this loss than she was ready to admit. However, in the long run, Ty Lee benefited from it.

Falling For The Enemy

Ty Lee can now be included in the increasing list of characters who felt a connection to Sokka. Ty Lee is undoubtedly the kind of person that develops crushes on a lot of the individuals she spends time with because of her outgoing and flirty demeanour.

Ty Lee doesn’t pursue her affections for Sokka, which is perhaps for the best considering that she subsequently joins the Kyoshi warriors, whose leader eventually falls in love with Sokka.

Feeling The Need To Be An Individual

Keep in mind that Ty Lee had to deal with six sisters. Ty Lee felt more like a group than an individual because there were so many people around who looked precisely like her. She started looking for herself and her uniqueness as a result. Given how unusual it is to do so, it is also quite likely the cause of her leaving and joining the circus. It obviously succeeded to some extent because none of her sisters initially did.

First Outsider As A Kyoshi Warrior

It’s crucial for the viewers to understand that the Kyoshi warriors don’t accept recruits from outside their community. They all wear attire to honour their creator, Avatar Kyoshi, and are all from Kyoshi Island.

Sokka was the first outsider who was officially admitted as a member. But when Suki had finished training him, his position was more honorary as their ranks were entirely female. Ty Lee was the first authentic outsider to join the group.

Guardian

Ty Lee persisted in her goal of becoming a Kyoshi fighter. In truth, Azula need a guard to watch over and protect her once she was detained after the war’s conclusion. Ty Lee and Suki were given the assignment.

Although it was an ironic turn of events, in some ways it really did complete the circle. Ty Lee experienced her life as a prisoner, and towards the end, she had changed to a guard. She was without a doubt the kindest guard imaginable.

Kyoshi Warrior

Ty Lee ended up hanging out in a Fire Nation prison with the Kyoshi warriors after she refused Azula’s demands. She eventually made friends with this bunch of strong women, and eventually joined their team.

It was the perfect union. Consider Ty Lee’s demonstrated skill sets along with the Kyoshi warrior manoeuvres. What might be superior to this? Possibly with the exception of the Kyoshi warriors Ty Lee is training…

One Of Seven

Ty Lee is one of seven daughters, all of whom have startling similarities in appearance. Doesn’t that explain a lot about her personality? Even Ty Lin, Ty Lat, Ty Lao, Ty Liu, Ty Lum, and Ty Woo, Ty Lee’s sisters, share her name.

Her enormous family, as well as the fact that they had so many and took such good care of all seven, definitely suggests that she comes from a wealthy family. These girls were undoubtedly a source of pride for their parents. Though we sincerely hope a boy wasn’t intended to complete the group…

Only Appeared In 11 Episodes

Since Ty Lee had such a strong personality, it’s simple to recall that she was around for the most of the original Avatar series’ run. However, the truth is that she didn’t make her debut until the third episode of “Book Two,” and she only made further appearances in 11 episodes.

Ty Lee didn’t even make an appearance in the follow-up Legend of Korra, and one of her 11 episodes didn’t even have a word for her character to say!

Saved By Her Sisters

Although Ty Lee was first upset that her sisters had taken “her thing” when Toph and she visited the circus, she ultimately felt glad that they had all decided to pursue acrobatics. That’s because she and Toph were saved by her six family members.

Toph overheard a couple preparing to harm spectators at the circus, so she persuaded Ty Lee to assist her in eliminating them (it wouldn’t have taken much persuasion). Ty Lee attempted to fight the other man while Toph engaged the firebender of the two, but her kicks had no effect on him, so her sisters intervened and convinced her that she had no need to be envious of them.

The Only Person Azula Ever Apologized To

It’s a questionable accolade, but it’s only one example of how significant their connection was. Azula may have been catty and purposefully made her friends uncomfortable in order to maintain the dominating dynamic in their friendship, but to some level, she cared.

In the “Book Three” episode “The Beach,” Ty Lee received the sole apology Azula ever gave in the series after she made her feel awful about her attention-seeking conduct.

Time In The Circus

Anyone who has seen Ty Lee move will be able to tell that; however, our girl had spent some time in the circus. She didn’t do it out of obligation—her family was reasonably well off, as was already mentioned—but rather because she wanted to.

Ty Lee did really leave to join the circus, and no one can hold that against her. The only opportunity she would ever have to get what she desired was to get away. And even then, Azula still managed to entice her back into her plans. Sadly, Ty Lee.

Unique Among The Fire Nation

Look at all the other members of the Fire Nation for a bit. They all either have black hair, gold eyes, or both. On the other side, Ty Lee possesses both. She stands out among the Fire Nation because of this.

But considering how similarly her sisters all appear, perhaps we might also conclude that they all share some characteristics. If so, then her entire family is truly unusual for the Fire Nation. We are puzzled as to how things came to pass.
