Fear not, though—The Walking Dead may be coming to an end!
The Walking Dead has been revived in a variety of spin-off shows despite the fact that AMC’s zombie-themed series ended on November 20. The first spin-off, Fear the Walking Dead, debuted in 2015, followed by the premiere of several other programs.
In fact, new AMC-produced titles are planned for release in 2023, significantly expanding the world of The Walking Dead. In a statement, chief content officer Scott M. Gimple stated, “It’s been ten years ‘gone bye’; what lies ahead are two more to come and stories more stories to tell after that.
The Walking Dead will resume after this finale because there are still many exciting stories to be told, he continued. “All-new narratives and characters, well-known locations and people, fresh voices, and myths. There will be a spectacular finale and fresh premieres following this one.”
All the information you need regarding current and forthcoming Walking Dead spin-offs is provided here.
The first spin-off series to air was Fear the Walking Dead. It debuted in 2015 and will return in 2021 for an additional season.
A blended family’s life are followed during the first three seasons of th is prequel series, which follows the outbreak of the zombie apocalypse. TWD starts in the midst of the apocalypse. Fear the Walking Dead is set in Los Angeles, California, but TWD is located in Atlanta, Georgia, which is another significant distinction between the two television series.
The plot also emphasises the characters’ anxiety as they try to maintain their humanity in the face of the zombie apocalypse. Their routine lives quickly take a turn as more and more people around them succumb to the illness that consumes flesh.
Because individuals are frequently murdered off in The Walking Dead, the cast changes over the course of its eight seasons. The key cast members who make repeat appearances are Alycia Debnam Carey as Alicia Clark, Cliff Curtis as Travis Manawa, Frank Dillane as Nick Clark, and Kim Dickens as Madison Clark. Others include Mo Collins as Sarah Rabinowitz, Colman Domingo as Victor Strand, and Jenna Elfman as June Dorie.
There is some crossover between TWD characters in season 4, such as Lennie James’ Morgan Jones and Austin Amelio’s Dwight, who served as Negan’s former right-hand man in season 5.
Fear the Walking Dead has a couple of its own spin-offs, speaking of which! On AMC’s official website, the programme has a few web-based spin-offs, such as Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462, Fear the Walking Dead: Passage, and The Althea Tapes.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond
The second TWD spin-off, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, debuted on AMC in 2020 and ran for two seasons before ending in December 2021.
The series follows the lives of teens who are the first generation to reach adulthood in a post-apocalyptic world. It is set in Nebraska ten years after the zombie apocalypse. The setting makes a subtle reference to the season 2 episode of TWD called “Nebraska.” The Civic Republic Military, which was first featured in the first series, is also given greater context.
The next generation of survivors—characters who were probably too young to remember the pre-plague world—are the focus of the World Beyond narrative. The four major protagonists are played by Aliyah Royale as Iris, Alexa Mansour as Hope, Hal Cumpston as Silas, and Nicolas Cantu as Elton.
Along with Joe Holt as Leo and Annet Mahendru as Huck, other cast members include Nico Tortorella as Felix and Julia Ormond as Elizabeth Kublek. Some TWD characters from season 1 and season 2 cross over in season 2, including Jeff Kober as an uncredited voice in season 1 and Pollyanna McIntosh as Jadis Stokes in TWD: World Beyond.
Tales of the Walking Dead
The third spin-off of the original series, Tales of the Walking Dead, debuted on AMC in August 2022.
The spin-off is an anthology that features both new and recurring TWD franchise characters. Tales of the Walking Dead covers the unique stories of new individuals in each episode, which then connect into the greater drama taking place in the TWD universe, in contrast to previous spin-offs with consistent plots across the seasons.
Each episode is named after the character it focuses on and is set in a different locale. The timeline also extends several years past the timeline of the original show, starting in pre-apocalyptic periods.
Terry Crews plays Joe and Olivia Munn plays Evie in the first episode, Parker Posey plays Blair and Jillian Bell plays Gina in the second, Samantha Morton plays Dee (also known as TWD villain Alpha) in the third, Anthony Edwards plays Dr. Everett and Poppy Liu plays Amy in the fourth, and Julie Carmen plays La Doa Alma in the fifth.
Since the sixth and final episode of season 1 of Tales of the Walking Dead aired on September 18, there has been no official word on whether the show has been renewed for a second season.
The Walking Dead: Dead City
The Walking Dead’s next spin-off, The Walking Dead: Dead City, will be the show’s fourth overall. Isle of the Dead was its original name in March, but AMC changed it to Dead City in August.
It will act as a direct continuation of the first season of TWD in terms of plot. The new series, which stars Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, will follow Maggie and Negan from The Walking Dead in a post-apocalyptic version of Manhattan.
A logline for the series stated, “The decaying city is filled with the dead and residents who have made New York City their own world full of chaos, danger, beauty, and terror.” Morgan made a suggestion that Dead City will take place “a few years after the Walking Dead climax” in an interview with Deadline.
I wanted to make Dead City so badly, by the way, because these characters are going to have a hard time getting along with one other. I found it fascinating that two individuals who seem to dislike one another have to come to terms with their conflict.
Eli Jorné, a current Walking Dead writer and co-executive producer, has been tapped to serve as the showrunner and executive producer of the six-episode series, which is scheduled to debut in April 2023 on AMC+ and AMC.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon
AMC said in September 2020 that another spin-off was in the works, with TWD showrunner Angela Kang and chief creative officer Scott M. Gimple serving as the creators. This spin-off would focus on Norman Reedus’ Daryl Dixon and Melissa McBride’s Carol Peletier.
AMC said in April of this year that McBride would not be the star of the upcoming spin-off, which will be set and filmed in France and is scheduled to debut in 2023.
AMC announced Melissa McBride’s departure by stating, “Melissa McBride has brought life to one of the most interesting, real, human, and beloved characters in The Walking Dead Universe.” At this point, Melissa found it logistically impractical to move to Europe.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the spin-off will now exclusively centre on Reedus’ role. The spokesman continued, “We understand that this news may upset fans, but The Walking Dead Universe continues to develop and evolve in intriguing ways, and we sincerely hope to see Carol again soon.
Adam Nagaitis from Chernobyl and Harry Potter alumna Clémence Poésy have since joined the cast.
Although a precise release date has not yet been set, 2023 is the current projection.
An untitled Rick and Michonne series
Danai Gurira and Andrew Lincoln’s characters Rick Grimes and Michonne from The Walking Dead are developing their own spin-off series. At San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, the two celebrities announced the news.
AMC initially declared a trilogy of films would be produced in 2018. (A teaser trailer for the movie was even published by the network at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019!) According to a press statement, the spin-off will now be a television series that “will begin with six episodes.”
The spin-off will centre on the “epic love story of two characters altered by a new world,” according to Deadline. The difficulties brought on by their prolonged separation will be discussed along with the omnipresent danger of zombie attacks.
The last time we saw Lincoln’s character, a sheriff who served as the leader of the survivors for the first nine seasons of the program, they believed he had died. He is literally shown escaping in a helicopter, so viewers will never forget that.
In season 3, Michonne made her debut as a reclusive character with a katana and zombie pets. Later seasons made her character’s relationship with Rick a focal point of the narrative. When Michonne left to locate Rick, viewers last saw her.
The series’ showrunner will be Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer of The Walking Dead Universe, with Lincoln and Gurira serving as executive producers. The series also lists Gurira as a writer. Although a precise release date has not yet been set, 2023 is the current projection.
