Where Was Finch Filmed? Tom Hank’s Movie ‘Finch’ Shooting Locations

‘Finch’ is a post-apocalyptic science fiction film about one of the last humans on the planet after a catastrophic natural disaster renders major areas of the planet uninhabitable. Before embarking on a cross-country expedition, the protagonist, who is also the film’s namesake, discovers he is dying and constructs a humanoid robot to care for his beloved dog.

One of the film’s most striking parts is the strange wasteland depicted as the world’s leftovers, which helps put the dying man’s goal into context. The film depicts some genuinely spectacular (and disturbing) landscapes, including several ruined cities and once-green fields that have become parched wastelands. Do you want to know where ‘Finch’ was shot? We know what’s going on!

Finch Filming Locations

The film ‘Finch’ was shot in several places throughout New Mexico, utilizing the state’s various landscapes to depict the protagonist’s epic cross-country journey. The large-scale production reportedly employed over 500 New Mexico residents as actors, crew, and extras. The film’s principal photography began in February 2019 and ended in May of the same year. Let’s look at the various locations that were employed to bring the film to life.

Albuquerque, New Mexico

The film is set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, and the protagonist travels from St. Louis, Missouri, to San Francisco, California, across the Golden Gate Bridge. The film’s many backdrops were shot in several sites throughout New Mexico, with the majority of the filming taking place in Albuquerque. Albuquerque Studios, located at 5650 University Boulevard South East, was the location for the production.

Many of the special effects portions in the film, as well as interior shots of the protagonist’s St. Louis shelter, appeared to be shot in the studios. Albuquerque was most likely used to capture scenes of abandoned storefronts and theaters.

Other Locations in New Mexico

The film showcases a broad array of landscapes, the majority of which were shot on location in and around New Mexico, because the lead characters embark on a cross-country trek to save their lives. Santa Fe, New Mexico’s capital, and Socorro, New Mexico’s capital, were both used for filming several sequences. The crew also spent some time filming in the Valencia County town of Los Lunas.

New Mexico’s spectacular vistas and natural rock formations also contributed to the bizarre setting of the picture. The protagonist depicts barren plains as lush fields before the terrible event, and the White Sands National Park in Southern New Mexico was utilized to depict them.

The Shiprock rock formation in San Juan County, which rises over 1,500 feet above the desert plain, was also used for filming. The film’s star, Tom Hanks, uploaded a photo that appears to show that a few sequences were also shot near the iconic U.S. Route 66 highway, which runs east-west across New Mexico.
