Andrew Tate, a well-known social media influencer, was recently released from a Romanian prison and put under house arrest. The 36-year-old, along with his brother Tristan Tate and two female accomplices, had been in prison since the end of December 2022 on allegations of human trafficking.
Tate successfully appealed the Bucharest Court’s decision to uphold his 30-day detention for a fourth time, which has resulted in all four of them being released from jail and placed under house arrest. The court has already denied his appeals.
Andrew Tate Released from Prison, Placed Under House Arrest
Until April 29, the former kickboxer will be under house arrest. The court “rejects the proposal to extend the length of the preventive arrest measure…regarding the defendants Tate III Emory Andrew, Tate Tristan, Naghel Georgiana Manuela, and Radu Alexandra Luana,” according to the official document.
“[The court] substitutes the preventative measure of home arrest for a 30-day period in place of the preventive detention issued against the accused. It mandates the defendants’ immediate release.
They are not a flight risk and pose no threat to the public’s safety, therefore [the authorities] have chosen to release them on house arrest, according to Mateea Petrescu, Tate’s director of communications.
“[It’s] just a little step; they’re still being looked into. They are ecstatic beyond belief. They maintained their spirits throughout their time in jail, and they are ecstatic and looking forward to returning home, she said.
Tate was Arrested in December Last Year
On December 29, 2022, Andrew, his brother, and the two Romanian ladies were detained on suspicion of participating in organised crime and human trafficking. None of the four have, however, been formally charged as of yet. To the offences, they have entered a not guilty plea.
Romania’s anti-organized crime organisation, Diicot, named six victims who were “subjected to acts of physical violence and mental coercion” and “sexually exploited” by the gang. According to reports, the victims were encouraged to commit pornographic actions in order to get money. During Tate’s arrest, Diicot seized property worth £3.25 million from his residence.
The Influencer is Infamous for his Misogynistic Views
Tate began his professional kickboxing career but quickly gained notoriety for his misogynistic beliefs. He was kicked off of the British television programme Big Brother in 2016 when a video of him assaulting a woman went viral. Since then, he has been well-known for his offensive remarks.
His account was later restored after Twitter banned him for claiming that “women should bear responsibility for being sexually attacked.” On the site, Tate has more than 5.4 million fans, some of whom are affected by his opulent lifestyle and hypermasculinity. Also, he lost his 4.6 million followers on Instagram, where he was also deleted.
Since 2017, Andrew Tate has resided in Romania. He has asserted that the charges against him were made up by political figures in order to silence him and that there is no solid evidence to support the claims that led to his detention.
