The teaser’s final few seconds show off Barbie’s plastic and fantastical world as well as the ensemble of characters that Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae, Ncuti Gatwa, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Simu Liu will be portraying. This scene alone gives us a glimpse of the outrageously fun, shiny, and ultra-pink world Gerwig created for this movie. In a nutshell, it looks fantastic. We were foolish to ever mistrust her!
The movie was directed by Gerwig, who also wrote the screenplay with her partner Noah Baumbach. The movie spent eight years in development hell, going through several different casts and directors, before finally choosing the mumblecore directors to take the helm.
The ensemble cast, which includes Will Ferrell, America Ferrera, Michael Cera, Kate McKinnon, Rhea Perlman, Emerald Fennell, Hari Nef, Sharon Rooney, Jamie Demetriou, Alexandra Shipp, Scott Evans, Emma Mackey, and Connor Swindells, is only briefly shown in the teaser.
