Davohnte Van Morgan was born on March 15, 1992, to Terri Barnes in San Francisco, San Francisco County, California. Terri described him as “a special child” since birth, with bright eyes and a loving soul. According to his aunt, Ruthie Devore, “Davohnte had a stutter” and took a long time to finish statements unless he was singing or rapping. Anthony Patchell, his younger brother, remembered how he grew up looking up to his elder brother and desired to be like him someday.
The show depicted Davohnte’s actions as a competent community leader. He volunteered at the church and was always present at all social activities. Terri remembered how her son never missed a wedding, birthday party, or baby shower. Davohnte started dating his partner (whose identity has been concealed) in 2019 after meeting her at a music festival. It was a whirlwind courtship in which the young couple visited beaches, vacationed, and travelled to Las Vegas together.
As a result, Davohnte’s former girlfriend reported him missing on May 7, 2020. According to her narrative, she stopped their relationship on May 4th. The Mount Shasta Police Department (MSPD) confirmed that they spent the night together at Cold Creek Inn on North Mt. Shasta Boulevard. She reportedly went out to see the sunrise the morning following their night at the inn. When she returned to the motel, she supposedly ran across Davohnte, but they didn’t speak.
It was frequently the last time anyone saw the 28-year-old. On May 6, the former girlfriend approached the MSPD to inquire about Davohnte’s disappearance. However, after speaking with a member of his family, she decided to postpone filing an official report until the next morning. When the report was submitted on May 7, Davohnte’s information was placed into the missing people system, and the department publicised it on social media to create potential leads, which were circulated throughout the state.
According to MSPD Lieutenant Joe Restine, the circumstances surrounding Davohnte’s death are highly suspicious, and officials are actively investigating. “We were able to find video surveillance of (Davohnte) walking past the police department on the day he was reported missing on May 5, shortly after taking the investigation,” he continued. The timetable matched the original information and confirmed the timeline for the initial statement.”
The MSPD worked with various law enforcement agencies to perform extensive searches. They sought advice from the San Francisco Police Department and were assisted by the Fresno Police Department, which checked a residence associated with Davohnte’s. Furthermore, the agency has collaborated closely with the FBI in Redding and the California agency of Justice, demonstrating the seriousness of their efforts.
During their investigation, MSPD discovered security footage showed Davohnte going about Mt. Shasta for about one hour on May 5. He travelled around 2.25 miles during this time, but the CCTV film abruptly terminated after that. This discovery was concerning because it came so soon after his last confirmed sighting on May 5th. Investigators meticulously examined footage from 10 cameras at six different sites, hoping to track his activities over the course of 72 hours.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department’s Search and Rescue team and the Southern Oregon Search and Rescue team were also participating in the search for Davohnte. Cadaver dogs were used to look for possible places for his remains. Based on hearsay reports of suspected body disposal, one search was even extended to a home with the assistance of a cadaver dog. Authorities performed a thorough grid search, covering locations within a mile of his last known location. Cadaver dogs were used to explore woodland areas and marshlands.
In addition to physical searches, MSPD identified two cards that Davohnte may have had in his possession at the time of his abduction. While one card was proven to have been used by a family member and was not in his possession, the other, a Chime credit card, was thought to be in his possession but was subject to a search warrant application that was denied. His phone was also monitored on several times, with the most recent ping occurring on May 3, the day before he travelled to Mt. Shasta.
The inquiry included a thorough check of hotels, public transportation providers, and businesses in Siskiyou County and nearby areas. Contrary to popular opinion, MSPD obtained security evidence of Davohnte using cash at a convenience store and having extra money in his wallet, indicating that he was not completely out of money. Despite concerns about the scope of the search, MSPD emphasised the breadth of the Mt. Shasta wilderness area and the lack of evidence that he accessed it.
Davohnte’s family has stated that he is not an outdoorsman and that he has a tight relationship with them, making it improbable that he would have gone missing without informing them. Terri claims that his son’s ex-girlfriend knew more about Davohnte’s abduction than she is admitting. “From what I understand, he was in a bad place and went up to Mt. Shasta for spiritual healing,” she said. He intended to become a preacher when he returned. I spoke with him, and they had a few too many beers before the female drove away.”
She went on to say, “That young woman knows what happened to him.” Davohnte is still missing after more than three years of searching and seeking public assistance. Sergeant Devon Priddy of the Mt. Shasta Police Department stated, “This isn’t a cold case.” It’s not going anywhere. It is unusual for the Mt. Shasta Police Department to have a missing persons case last this long, but we are always monitoring it, and when new officers are hired, we have them go through the case so they can be up to speed.”

Davohnte is a 5’11” African-American male with distinguishing features such as a moustache, goatee, and a tattoo on his left hand. He was wearing black sweatpants, a black turtleneck, and San Francisco 49ers slide rubber sandals when he was last spotted. Authorities are requesting that anyone who finds a rental car key with a key fob after May 5, 2020, report it.
