‘Free Guy 2’, a prequel to the action-comedy movie from 2021 titled ‘Free Guy,’ is apparently once again in the works at 20th Century Studios. Guy (Ryan Reynolds), a bank teller who discovers that he is a non-player character in a gruesome and open-world video game, is the main character of the original movie. Guy then decides to become the protagonist of the story by trying to save the world.
The film’s script is virtually complete, according to Steve Asbell, head of the production business, even though 20th Century Studios hasn’t formally announced the project. “We will be releasing more ‘Avatar’ and ‘Free Guy’ films. We were overjoyed that Free Guy was as well-received as it was, especially considering that it was an original film at a period when few are produced and even fewer are successful. That was satisfying, so. And if we can figure out the sequel, creating it together may be a lot of fun. […] Reynolds and I both made a few sequels in our life, so we are aware of how challenging it is to create a worthwhile one. We [Reynolds] had such a strong sense of the tone, the story, and the specifics of Free Guy. And we’ll make it when we’re sure that’s the kind we’ll make, Levy told Collider.
Reynolds, though, has been silent over time on the film. “‘Free Guy’ may have a sequel, which would be entertaining. I’d adore it. Does everything fucking have to be a sequel, though? I’m not sure. While visiting the Just For Laughs comedy festival in London in March 2023, the actor observed, “Sometimes it’s OK to just do a movie and have it kick ass and then everyone go home. The actor continued by saying that he is still “talking about it [the sequel]” with the crew.
Reynolds is reluctant to discuss the sequel, but it is obvious that the actor will most likely return as Guy in the picture. The ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike has caused the production of “Deadpool 3,” which Reynolds is now committed to, to be delayed. Therefore, we might just have to wait until the third “Deadpool” movie is finished before the sequel begins shooting. In the follow-up, Jodie Comer will likely return as Millie/Molotovgirl. Taika Waititi as Antwan, Lil Rel Howery as Buddy, Joe Keery as Keys, and Utkarsh Ambudkar as Mouser are possible additions to the cast.
We can anticipate an original story in the same film because the sequel’s narrative is not established in the first film.
