In today’s modern society, where strained family relationships seem to be at an all-time high, it could be argued that a family tree made up of only biological connections and one whose roots are made up of a mix of strangers have the same effect on a person’s emotional stability and overall happiness. As shown in recent movies like Aftersun, starring Paul Mescal, and A Good Person, starring Florence Pugh, just strengthening the foundation of a strong bond between people could be all that’s needed for a soul to either heal and grow or wither and die.
Well, a new HBO show called Rain Dogs will explore this relationship by putting viewers right in the middle of what seems to be a mother and daughter’s start to a rough and unexpected new life. We soon find out that as long as the new family has the right support system, it doesn’t matter how makeshift it is, because the relationships within it will grow to be stronger than the unstable environment. Here is what we know.
Rain Dogs: The Plot
Rain Dogs is about a working-class single mother named Costello Jones. The story takes place in the United Kingdom. The trailer for the show shows that she is suddenly kicked out of her home and has to play a game of survival with her wild but smart daughter, Iris. Costello moves from place to place trying to find a new place to live. She gets help from Gloria, her best friend and the godmother of her daughter. Gloria becomes both reliable to Costello and wild when desperate times call for it.
Selby, a friend of Costello’s who just got out of jail for using violence to protect her in the past, can also help. Loudly saying that he is “a classical homosexual” and proudly showing how sarcastic he is, he helps Costello get her feelings out when she needs to and gives Iris the father figure she needs. Costello and Iris are surrounded by a very dysfunctional but strong sense of family. This gives them the strength and willpower to deal with the ups and downs of today’s rigged social norms.
Rain Dogs: The Cast & Crew
When it comes to the actors and actresses who will play the characters in Rain Dogs, Daisy May Cooper, who will play the determined Costello Jones, will be in the lead. Cooper is a big name in British comedy. He co-created the hit BBC show This Country, which later became Welcome to Flatch. She also played a single mother in every episode of the popular UK show Am I Being Unreasonable?, where she was also a star. Iris, Costello’s daughter, is played by Fleur Tashjian in her first movie role. Even though Tashjihan has never been on camera before, her performance in the official trailer shows that she will be able to show the audience how serious the situation is with the right amount of charm.
Ronk Adékolujo and Jack Farthing, who play Gloria and Selby, are also among the most important people in the cast. Adékolujo is an English actress who has won a lot of awards. She played a big role in the Alex Rider series and has also been in movies like “Ready Player One” and “Christopher Robin.” Jack Farthing is a smooth British actor who has been in the movies The Lost Daughter, which came out in 2021, and Love Wedding Repeat, which was only available on Netflix and came out in April 2020. Farthing will make a unique character for the soon-to-be-released HBO show by taking the serious tone from the suspenseful thriller The Lost Daughter and putting it into the more realistic parts of Rain Dogs. He will also use the humor from Love Wedding Repeat.
Cash Carraway is the creator, writer, and executive producer of Rain Dogs. He is an Irish author who has written and produced successful plays like The Last Peepshow in Soho and The French Inhaler, as well as a popular short film for the BBC called L’Opera del Lavoratore, which came out in 2022.
Release Date
