After one season, Hulu has canceled the comedy series Reboot that it first debuted last year. Despite receiving favorable reviews from reviewers when it first debuted, the program will not be returning for another season.
The television industry was mocked by the meta-comedy, which frequently revived popular old episodes. It focused on the dysfunctional ensemble of Step Right Up, a fictional 2000s comedy, who were asked to return for the show’s relaunch.
Reboot Canceled at Hulu After One Season
played by actor Johnny Knoxville, posted on social media to announce the news. “It is with heavy heart that I announce that @hulu has not even renewed Reboot for a second season, despite the show receiving excellent reviews and being nominated for a critics’ choice award. Pretty incredible,” he declared.
I wanted to thank @stevelevitan and the entire fantastic cast for allowing me to be a part of this show since working on it has been one of the greatest joys of my life. However, we still prefer to shop it around, so perhaps it will find a home with a studio that supports new shows as they develop and believes in them, he continued.
The Series was Created by Modern Family Creator Steve Levitan
Steve Levitan’s first endeavor after the acclaimed Modern Family, which ended after 10 seasons in 2020, was Reboot. It was also the first program he produced just for a streaming platform. Late in 2021, the pilot episode of the show was shot, and in January 2022, an eight-episode first season was commissioned.
Reboot, according to Levitan, was similar to “therapy” for him because it gave him the chance to “express some of the things [he’d] been thinking in his career.” It occurred to him that it would be much wiser to simply say, “I’m going to ride Modern Family out with the sunset and go off to wine country,” as he had previously said.
But I wanted to keep working, the creator had stated. I like to write and create, and I like doing this. I can sense the pressure there. I made an effort to use it positively to spur me on to refuse to give up. Reboot premiered on Hulu alongside other written comedies including Life & Beth, Only Murders in the Building, and How I Met Your Father.
Reboot was Planned as a Multi-Season Show
Since the series was always intended to go for more than one season, the cancellation surprised many people. The first season’s finale also had a cliffhanger that left questions that have yet to be resolved. Although just 68% of viewers rated the first season favorably, critics gave it an 88% rating.
An early 2000s family sitcom is reinvented, and the dysfunctional ensemble must deal with their unsolved issues in today’s fast-changing world, according to the official summary of the series. Keegan-Michael Key, Rachel Bloom, Calum Worthy, Krista Marie Yu, Judy Greer, Paul Reiser, Eliza Coupe, Alyah Chanelle Scott, and Ryan Dietz also starred in Reboot in addition to Knoxville.
