According to reports, Netflix is creating a live-action and animated series based on the “Dragon Age” video game franchise from BioWare and Electronic Arts. The exploits of the residents of the made-up continent Thedas are the focus of the video game series. The animated television series “Dragon Age: Absolution” was previously produced and released by Netflix in partnership with BioWare. Although it is unknown which of the two episodes would act as a prequel or sequel to the 2022 show, it is assumed that both of them will take place in Thedas as the games and “Absolution.”
There are three main games in the “Dragon Age” series: “Dragon Age: Origins,” “Dragon Age II,” and “Dragon Age: Inquisition.” Dragon Age Journeys, Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening, Dragon Age Legends, Heroes of Dragon Age, and Dragon Age: The Last Court were released in addition to the original game. ‘Dragon Age: Dreadwolf,’ the series’ fourth main game, is presently in development or production with no set release date.
The events of “Dragon Age: Inquisition” and “Dragon Age: Dreadwolf” are followed by those of “Dragon Age: Absolution,” which is available on Netflix. The future video game may serve as inspiration for the animated series, if it is a follow-up to the 2022 series. If not, it might even deepen the plots of “Absolution,” coming to a conclusion just before the events of “Dreadwolf.” There is enough content in the game series for Netflix to transform it into a live-action series. The first season of the show may even be an adaptation of “Dragon Age: Origins” if it is being developed as a multi-season production.
No matter how the two programmes’ plots differ, BioWare is expected to direct their development and production, just as it did with “Absolution.” In order to create the 2022 series, BioWare partnered with Red Dog Culture House, a Korean animation studio known for such works as “Justice League: Warworld,” “The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf,” “Centaurworld,” and “Voltron Legendary Defender Motion Comic.” Red Dog is anticipated to also produce the future animated programme.
In the past, Netflix has collaborated with game creators to create original content. The video-streaming behemoth collaborated with Sega and Riot Games to transform “League of Legends” into “Arcane,” “Sonic the Hedgehog” into “Sonic Prime,” etc. As Riot Games and Warner Bros are apparently working on animated versions of the video games “Valorant” and “Dead Space,” respectively, video game adaptations are growing in popularity in recent years.
