Tom Rothman, the chairman of Sony, gave an encouraging update on the progress of the Spider-Man: No Way Home sequel. The studio “hopes to get working on the next Spider-Man movie” soon, according to Rothman, who was speaking with Deadline about the studio’s future and its upcoming slate. It is also the intention for actors like Tom Holland, Zendaya, and director Jon Watts to return for additional adventures with our neighbourhood web-slinger.
Spider-Man, Jumanji, and Uncharted. We have our Marvel division, which is divided into three parts. There are the Spider-Man films, and Lord and Miller and I are currently working on two Spider-Verse prequels to our Academy Award–winning animated film. We plan to begin production on the upcoming Spider-Man film.
Given the enormous success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which has earned over $1.8 billion globally, it should not come as a surprise that Sony is considering giving the character another excursion. However, it is encouraging to hear that they want to start working on the project as soon as possible.
Regarding the plans for Spider-Man 4 and the rest of the Sony Marvel world, Rothman had the following to say about the return of Jon Watts, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and the rest of the Spider-Man group.
“We wish for that entire gang. Then there are films that I would classify as ancillary to the Spider-Man canon. That is Kraven, which is currently in production, and Madam Web, which will begin production in the spring under the direction of S.J. Clarkson. Then there are several stand-alone Marvel characters. Oh, Sony has no IP, that was said when I took over Sony. It’s untrue. In fact, our IP was outstanding. All we had to do was concentrate.
Therefore, given how Spider-Man: No Way Home ended and Rothman’s desire to have Tom Holland and Zendaya return for Spider-Man 4, we can guess that the memory-wiping conclusion won’t persist for very long.
Spider-Man: No Way Home Sees the Multiverse Unleashed on the MCU
Tom Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was released at the end of last year and has been a tremendous commercial and critical success, sees him fighting to live with his secret identity exposed. In a last-ditch effort, he turns to his friend and fellow superhero Doctor Strange, pleading with him to use his magic to make everyone mistakenly believe that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. The spell fails as a result of Peter’s notorious inability to stop talking, opening up the multiverse and letting various heroes and villains from earlier Spider-Man films enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Spider-Man: No Way Home, directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man alongside Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, and Marisa Tomei, is written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. In addition, the film features a number of actors and characters from earlier Spider-Man films, including Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire as different Peter Parkers, Willem Dafoe as The Green Goblin, and Jamie Foxx as Electro.
