Ceyenne may have spent the longest on the Stroll to provide for herself; she only left after 25 years of sex labour. If there’s one thing that nobody can dispute, it’s that. Due to her unwavering perseverance, the New Yorker has never let this stand in her way, which is why it’s no wonder that she has subsequently been dubbed the “Godmother of the Black Trans Lives Matter Movement.” Since the author is an activist looking for methods to give her community a voice globally, she founded GLITS (Gays & Lesbians Living in a Transgender Society) in 2015 to provide sustainable housing and healthcare to Black trans individuals.

Carey did indeed spend around 13 years between 1996 and 2009 as a streetwalker on the Stroll, but it is clear that she hasn’t allowed that experience to define who she is in any way, shape, or form. That’s because the Jamaican woman had close friendships by her side the entire time, supporting her through every challenge until she found security in Brooklyn, New York. Therefore, the trans woman is now leading a quiet life as a Front Desk Associate at Vocal New York, a state-wide grassroots organisation assisting low-income people with a variety of difficulties. She freely admits that she is “work in progress but almost complete.”
