Netflix keeps choosing fantastic international works to turn into original TV series. The Three-Body Problem, a television series based on the Remembrance of Earth’s Past books by the Chinese science fiction novelist Liu Cixin, is one of those recent endeavours.
Many contemporary fiction writers, including George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, have given the books great praise. That’s intriguing because The Three-Body Problem is also being led by Game of Thrones producers and authors David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

The Three-Body Problem Release date
The Three-Body Problem’s first season launch date hasn’t been made public in its exact form yet. However, the platform already declared that the show would undoubtedly launch in 2023 when it acquired the adaptation rights back in September 2020.
The series, which is a trilogy, is anticipated to feature three seasons, each of which will follow the plot from a different Liu book. However, how much the producers want to condense the story and how well the first season does will all depend on these factors.
The Three-Body Problem Cast & Crew
Netflix officially unveiled the show’s core 12 cast members on October 29, 2021. Following is an alphabetical list of them:
Benedict Wong (Wong from the MCU), Liam Cunningham (Lord Davos Seaworth in Game of Thrones), John Bradley (Sam Tarly in Game of Thrones), Sameer Usmani (Chase from Netflix’s Inventing Anna), and other well-known actors and actresses are among the list’s more notable entries.
Alexander Woo (True Blood) will join David Benioff & D.B. Weiss (Game of Thrones) as creators and executive producers.
The project’s producer roster also includes Rian Johnson, who directed Star Wars and Knives Out, Brad Pitt, and Rosamund Pike. It’s unknown if Johnson will also serve as the show’s director.
Scenography is being led by Andrew McCarthy, and Ashley Lamont will serve as the art director in charge. The editor in charge is Michael Ruscio.
Finally, it was announced that Derek Tsang will be in charge of directing at least one episode while Minkie Spire will be in charge of at least three.
The Three-Body Problem Plot
At least not in terms of where the first season of the show will lead us in Liu Cixin’s book series, where the specific narrative is yet unknown. The first season will cover the story of The Three-Body Problem, the first book in the Remembrance of Earth’s Past series, if the show follows one book every season, which appears likely.
It takes place in the near future, as China is being rocked by the Cultural Revolution. The Trisolaris, an alien race on the verge of extinction, are currently on their way to invade Earth after receiving a radio communication from scientists that identified Earth’s location in space.
However, since it will take centuries for them to get there, humanity has plenty of time to become ready and plan a response to the initial contact. Different camps on Earth are beginning to emerge as a result of the differences in viewpoints; some are pro-alien and wish to welcome advanced intellect, while others believe the planet should repel the invaders.
Since it is still very early in the production process, there is currently no trailer for The Three-Body Problem. As a result, the trailer probably won’t be released for a time, particularly because we don’t even know the release date.
The Three-Body Problem Genre & Other Facts
Despite having some horror aspects, the Three-Body Problem series is categorised as an adventure, drama, fantasy, mystery, and sci-fi series. Naturally, it depends on what frightens you. While some readers have praised The Three-Body Problem as the “most dreadful sci-fi book series” they’ve ever read, others disagree, saying it’s not as frightening as it is captivating.
We’ll see where the series goes from here. The USA (New York City), the UK (London, England), and China are the three nations that have officially been confirmed as filming sites.
That would suggest the show has a significant budget, which is reasonable given the calibre of the production crew and the celebrities involved.
