Wheeler became interested in weather forecasting when she was young and saw how powerful a tornado was for the first time.
Amber Wheeler’s father accelerated Amber along with her sister into their church to find shelter, and it was then that she experienced the power of Mother Nature.
After completing her Broadcast Meteorology and Geoscience studies at Mississippi State University, she began her profession as a meteorologist at KX in March 2012.
But during her eleven years at KX, she gave her forecasts with a lot of energy.
Wheeler earned an honourable mention from the Eric Sevareid Awards, an Associated Press Award, and a recent Emmy nomination.
In February 2023, she quit KX to take on a new position as a newscast forecaster at WVUE-TV Fox 8.
However, Wheeler is most proud of her work in the community. She volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club to educate youngsters on the skill of filmmaking and helped build a house with Habitat for Humanity after the 2011 flood in Minot.
