It’s ironic how many of us wish to be adults as children, only to wish to be children all over again once we’ve grown up. With time, though, we come to comprehend what maturity entails and learn to accept it for all of its independence, duties, and obligations. However, some people never grow out of that stage and preach about “never growing up,” and while it is necessary to lighten up every now and again, acting like a child when you’re an adult may lead to some really uncomfortable circumstances.
The Japanese language has a peculiar phrase called “Chunnibyou.” This phrase is most commonly used to describe someone who exhibits exceptional delusional behavior, particularly believing in supernatural abilities. Because the “child to adult” shift occurs in eighth grade, this term is now referred to as “Eighth-grade syndrome.” Apart from eighth graders, there are a few adults that exhibit “Chunnibyou” characteristics. ‘Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!’ is about such people and the difficulties they face as a result of their condition.
Clearly, the anime’s concept is creative, but it’s like one of those times in life when you have a wonderful idea, but when you put it down on paper, it doesn’t turn out to be as good as you wanted it to be. What begins as a lovely slice-of-life animation about the Chunnibyou lifestyle quickly transforms into a love story. Initially, I was dissatisfied, as were many others, because I approached it with a different perspective, but after a while, I began to appreciate this authentic romantic comedy animation.
I say “genuine” because anime shows are frequently characterized as romances for no reason. A mecha anime with a curvaceous female protagonist falling for a badass protagonist who doesn’t give a damn about her isn’t romance; harem is a separate genre completely. ‘Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!’ sticks true to the romance theme throughout the series, unlike most other anime that dabble with it.
To put it another way, if you’re searching for a romantic anime with a dash of hit-or-miss comedy, ‘Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!’ (also known as Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions) will not disappoint. The plot isn’t very unique, but it’s the people who shine through all of the flaws in this love story, not to mention the outstanding soundtracks. ‘Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!’ isn’t among the best anime of all time, but it’s still better than the typical ones.
Chuunibyou Season 3 Release Date: When Will it Premiere?
Season 1 of ‘Chuunibyou’ premiered on October 4, 2012, and ended on December 12, 2012, with a total of 12 episodes. Following that, on June 19, 2013, a “Special Episode 13” was released. The second season, with a total of 12 episodes, premiered on January 9, 2014 and ended on March 27, 2014. Following that, there was a “special” episode that was never broadcast and was only available on Blu-ray and DVD.
Instead of releasing a new season, the studio has decided to bring this anime to a close by making a film adaptation. ‘Eiga Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Take On Me,’ the last film, was actually better than the entire series. The anime film’s conclusion is quite decisive, so it’s unlikely that we’ll see it again in any manner. In the rare event if the anime is revived, the release date for season 2 of ‘Chuunibyou’ could be somewhere in 2021 or later. As soon as we have additional information, we will update this section.

Chuunibyou Plot:
During childhood, we all have a phase where we wish we were superheroes of some sort, and some of us even believe we had superhuman skills. When you’re a youngster, believing you’ve descended from a fantasy realm is acceptable; however, if you continue to think this as an adult, you’ll be dubbed a “Chuunibyou.” It’s more or less regarded as an illness that can lead to some extremely unpleasant circumstances.
Yutta Togashi, the protagonist, has been in a number of uncomfortable circumstances as a result of his own traumatic experiences as a “Chuunibyou.” His experiences have been so traumatic that he decides to leave everything behind and begin a new life at a school that is far distant from his old one. He pretended to be the “Dark Flame Master” for a long period, only to discover that he had a disease. But now, having left everything behind, he is carving out a new life with a clean slate.
His history, however, reappears in the shape of another female who, like him, is a “Chuunibyou” who poses as the “Wicked Eye.” Even at his new school, Yutta is forced to deal with additional unpleasant circumstances, despite his desire to be a normal school kid again. However, the outcome this time may not be as dreadful as it appears.
Chuunibyou Characters:
Kumin Tsuyuri
Kumin is the series’ most laid-back and innocent character, who adores napping. She maintains that napping is her sole pastime. She takes her naps so seriously that she establishes a napping club at school, which no one joins, obviously. Her lack of understanding of most subjects in school is most likely the result of being homeschooled for the majority of her life. Because she spent the most of her youth with her family, she has a very pure heart. She always has a pillow with her so she may nap whenever she feels like it.
Rikka Takanashi
Rikka is the anime’s female protagonist, who, like Yuuta, suffers from “Eighth Grade Syndrome.” She believes she is a sorceress possessed by the “Tyrant’s Eye” and lives in a deluded world. She also wears an eyepatch over her “Tyrant’s Eye” at all times to safeguard it. She claims that her eye can see visions of one’s future, and that this delusion even affects her real-life emotions. She is the epitome of a “Chunnibyou,” as her situation is as serious as it gets.
Sanae Dekomori
Sanae Dekomori, who has long pigtails with weights at either end, is another “Eighth Grade Syndrome” case. She claims to utilize these for the “Mighty Mjolnir Maul,” which she claims is used to force men to satisfy their moral obligations. She meets Rikka online and they quickly bond because they are both still trapped in their disease’s fantasy world. Rikka despises milk, but she needs it to grow taller and stronger, so she compels herself to drink it constantly. Despite her delusions, she is an excellent student who has completed the entire high school mathematics curriculum.
Shinka Nibutani
Shinka is well-liked at school due to her diverse set of skills and appealing appearance. Many male and female pupils admire her for who she is. She is also elected as the high school’s representative. What she shows on the outside, however, is really a mask for the vestiges of her humiliating Chuunibyou past. Unlike Yuuta, who has fully recovered from his previous illness, she still remembers some aspects of her childhood fantasies and still possesses some of the stuff she gathered as her alter identity, “Mori Summer.”
Yuuta Togashi
Yuuta, the anime’s main character, was originally afflicted with the Chuunibyou sickness. He used to go around claiming to be the Dark Flame Master while he was in elementary school. However, after much discomfort, he decides to leave it behind and begin a new life as a normal person. Yuuta appears to be a calm and polite person most of the time, but when someone brings up his “Eighth Grade Syndrome,” he loses his cool and becomes angry. He despises being reminded of his dark past, in which he disgraced himself and his family by engaging in a variety of bizarre behaviors.
