If Waco: American Apocalypse on Netflix proves anything, it’s that the 51-day siege between the government and the Branch Davidians cult was really horrifying. ATF agents, 82 group members, including 28 young children, and 86 largely innocent lives were lost as a result of the way religious leader David Koresh handled the matter. How Many Wives and Children Did David Koresh Have?
Even though David had only recently joined the Branch Davidians’ community in 1981 at the age of 22, he was able to persuade Lois Roden, the group’s then-leader, within just two years that he possessed a rare gift for prophecy. He was therefore even permitted to start educating the sect about his new light message, only to claim shortly after that God had selected him to father a kid by Lois despite the fact that she was a late-60s widower. But, it’s important to remember that he had already slept with a 15-year-old when he was 19, and at age 25, he declared that he needed to wed Rachel Jones.
When David initially brought up marriage, Rachel was just 14 years old, but according to reports, her steadfast family readily accepted it, making her David’s first and only legitimate bride. The couple then had three adorably cute children: Bobbie Layne Koresh (April 6, 1987), Star Hadassah Howell (March 20, 1985), and Cyrus Joseph Howell (April 6, 1987). (December 14, 1991). The head, however, had already reversed his beliefs by the time their youngest was born, not just to accept other partners but also to do away with the idea of marriage altogether for every member.
David allegedly got a “revelation” that he was intended to have additional spouses in the late 1980s, according to the documentary series. When the revelation changed, he was instructed to dissolve all of his followers’ marriages and take their wives (if he desired them). At first, he only took single girls. Hence, he allegedly had at least 19 additional domestic partners, with whom he fathered about 14 children. Yet, the most disturbing aspect of all is that the majority of these “wife” were minor girls. In reality, according to accounts, he reportedly took “brides” as young as 10, but they were all devoted Branch Davidians.
The names of all of David’s partners and children are unfortunately unknown, although a former follower did emphasise that his “theological argument for taking all of the women for himself was theological… He was the one who had the ability and the authority to “give the seed.” That is both perverse and ill. So far, the identities of the former have been established for the following people: Rachel’s sister, Michele Marie Jones Thibodeau; Dana Okimoto; Nicole Elizabeth Gent Little; Sherri Jewell; Kiri Jewell (Sherri’s daughter and the 10-year-old “wife”); Neva Walkoviak; Robyn Bunds; Aisha Gyarfas-Summers; and Katherine Grace Andrade.
David had Sky Okimoto, David Lord Gent, Dayland Lord Gent, Serenity Sea Jones, Mayanah Songbird Schneider, Latwan “Little One” Jones, Chica Jones, Startle Summers, Pages Kara Brittani, Chanel Andrade, and Baby Summers, in addition to Cyrus, Star, and Bobbie. He also had Cyrus, Star, and Bobbie. Only four of the leader’s children survived the catastrophic April 19, 1993, fire that destroyed their whole community of Mt. Carmel Center in Texas, putting an end to the 51-day standoff. Because they were fortunately not even at the property, they became his legal successors in every capacity.
