A perilous love triangle will be at the centre of a new Netflix limited series with an exceedingly hot plot that has been dubbed ‘erotic and seductive’. The series will be a modern retelling of the late author Josephine Hart’s 1991 novella. Damage, the author’s first book, is said to have been a runaway hit. It tells the tale of a wealthy, successful politician who fell from grace due to an all-consuming, forbidden love affair. Hart’s novel, a piece of dark literary fiction, examines a number of issues, including passion, adultery, and obsession.
In March 2022, Netflix made their initial announcement regarding the Hart novel adaptation. According to the initial announcement, the adaptation would be called Damage and use the same name as the book. Obsession: The Cast & Crew
Richard Armitage and Charlie Murphy will play the series’ main characters. Armitage will portray William Farrow, and Murphy will portray the dynamic Anna Barton. Because of his roles in multiple Harlan Coben adaptations and The Hobbit movies, Armitage has become well-known to many Netflix users. But, Murphy is most recognised for her portrayal of Jessie Eden in the popular television series Peaky Blinders. Several other actors joined the cast of Obsession after Armitage and Murphy, who had their roles initially revealed back in March 2022. Ingrid, William’s wife, will be portrayed by Indira Varma, and Jay, Anna’s fiancé, will be portrayed by Rish Shah. Pippa Bennett-Warner as Peggy, an acquaintance of Anna’s, and Celine Arden as Mimi will be joining them. The mother of Anna will be portrayed by Marion Bailey, best known for her portrayal of the Queen Mother in The Crown.
The project will be led by Moonage Pictures and Gaumont UK, with executive producers Matthew Read and Frith Tiiplady of Moonage and Alison Jackson of Gaumont. Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D’Sa will sit in the director’s chairs, with Gina Carter serving as the show’s producer. Morgan Lloyd-Malcolm and Benji Walters wrote the script to adapt the story for the big screen.
Release Date
Obsession’s release date is not too far off. The sensual thriller limited series is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on April 13 and will be shot in London between April and June 2022. Given the series’ mature themes and plot, it should go without saying that Obsession is strictly intended for adults. According to reports, each episode will last three to four hours.
