Renesmee Cullen, the daughter of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, was by far the oddest vampire in the Twilight series; read on to learn more about her and how she differs from other vampires. Twilight, the first book in a quartet of four, by Stephenie Meyer, introduced readers to a world where vampires, humans, and werewolves live. The romance between vampire Edward Cullen and human Bella Swan, which faced challenges because not all vampires approved of their connection, was the central theme of the novel.
Between 2008 and 2012, the Twilight books were adapted for the big screen, with the final book, Breaking Dawn, being split into two movies. Renesmee, the daughter of Edward and Bella, was first introduced in Breaking Dawn: Part 2 of the Twilight Saga, which attempted to stay as loyal to the original novel as possible (played by Mackenzie Foy). The films made the story more accessible to a larger audience, which also heightened several character-nature questions, such as what precisely is Renesmee and why and how she differs from other vampires in the Twilight realm.
Renesmee was conceived and delivered when Bella was still a human. Her name is a combination of RenĂ©e, Bella’s mother, and Esme, Edward’s adoptive mother. After giving birth to her, Bella was forced to become a vampire since her body could hardly cope. Renesmee is a “dhampir,” a cross between a vampire and a human, and as such, she possesses characteristics of both. Her heart beats, and while her skin is warm and smooth, it is as resilient as a vampire’s. Most importantly, she can subsist on either blood or food. She can also sleep and is not poisonous. Physically, she matures quite quickly, but after seven years, when she will look roughly 17 (exactly like Edward), she will reach adulthood and cease to age altogether.
