The plot of this story is heavily influenced by the Shakespeare play Hamlet, as the main character begins to see parallels between his own life and that of Hamlet. More suspiciously than it first appears, his father commits suicide, leaving his uncle in command of the family’s money. The son resolves to attempt to alter their fortunes before it’s too late when he learns that his uncle will marry his mother and therefore join the family. He believes that knowing how Hamlet works will work in his favor and help him conquer the obstacles arising because he has his best buddy by his side.

The Farhadi-directed film Fireworks Wednesday was released in 2006. Hedieh Tehrani, Alidoosti, and Hamid Haroknezhad play the main parts in the film.
