Best Netflix Hindi Movies You Can Watch in 2021
We have put together a diverse assortment of Bollywood movies in our huge collection, so whether you’re looking for the best comedy movies on Netflix, top action movies on Netflix, drama, crime, thriller, biographical, or anything else, you’ll find movies that suit to your taste. Furthermore, there are a number of noteworthy trendsetters who have received widespread critical recognition for their outstanding performance.
Before you begin, keep in mind that the following Hindi films are not in any specific order. Some movies may appeal to you more than others, depending on your tastes. You may be confident that all of the films on this list will provide an engrossing viewing experience.
Swades (2004)
Swades is one of Shahrukh Khan’s greatest films. While the film underperformed at the box office, it has subsequently gained cult status among its followers. The plot of the film is straightforward: an NRI returns to India to bring her nanny to America. In doing so, he rediscovers his roots and realises why it is critical for him to remain in his own nation and strive for its progress. Swades is one of the best Bollywood movies on Netflix.
Rang de Basanti (2006)
Rang de Basanti is easily my favourite Bollywood film of all time. The film is not simply a superb plot with excellent acting, but it is also a masterpiece of the craft of filmmaking itself. This film’s transition between its two primary timelines is flawless. You never feel out of place, and every scene is flawless.
In terms of plot, it is a storey about Indian youth and how they reconnect with their history. The plot centres around six young Indians who help an English woman make a documentary about freedom heroes. They learn about the sacrifices that were made to create this country and the responsibilities that have been placed on us to move this country forward while filming the documentary. The film has been scored by the famed Mr. A. R. Rahman, so you know the music will be fantastic. This is the film for you if you enjoy thought-provoking films that make you reconsider your life choices.
Ishqiya (2010)
Ishqiya is a classic black comedy film that I’ve seen several times. The film, directed by Abhishek Chaubey, stars Naseeruddin Shah, Vidya Balan, Arshad Warsi, and Salman Shahid. Though the film did poorly at the box office, it received high appreciation for its photography and performances by Naseeruddin Shah, Vidya Balan, and Arshad Warsi. Vidya Balan was replaced in the sequel Dedh Ishqiya by Madhuri Dixit and Huma Qureshi.
No One Killed Jessica (2011)
Although No One Killed Jessica was released in 2011, the storyline remains relevant. The plot centres around a little girl who is seeking justice for the murder of her younger sister. Betrayal, corruption, and everything else we’ve come to expect from India’s criminal justice system will be on display. No One Killed Jessica is a superb thriller film directed and written by Raj Kumar Gupta and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, starring Vidya Balan and Rani Mukerji.
Paan Singh Tomar (2012)
If you admire Irrfan Khan’s acting, you should watch Paan Singh Tomar several times. It is a biographical film about an athlete who served in the Indian Army and even brought honour to the country by earning a gold medal at the Indian National Games. He was driven, though, to become a rebel against the system.
Tigmanshu Dhulia directed the film, which was produced by UTV Motion Pictures and stars Mahie Gill, Vipin Sharma, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in supporting roles. Paan Singh Tomar, which was made on a minimal budget of 45 million (US$630,000), became a box-office smash, grossing 201.80 million (US$2.8 million). Furthermore, the film was nominated for Best Feature Film and Best Actor at the 60th National Film Awards in 2012.
Special 26 (2013)
While Hollywood is full of plenty of brilliant con movies, Bollywood has never gotten it right, that is, until Special 26 reached the big screen. The film, which stars Akshay Kumar, is about a con guy and his crew who pretend as CBI and Income Tax inspectors in order to swindle notable rich businessmen and politicians who are dodging taxes. If you enjoy con movies and are looking for nice Hindi movie on Netflix, this one is for you.
The Lunchbox (2013)
Let us begin our discussion with one of Bollywood’s most underappreciated and underappreciated films, The Lunchbox. Lunchbox’s plot centres around an Indian housewife and an elderly guy. The film begins with a straightforward idea. What if Mumbai’s critically regarded Dabbawala misplaced a lunchbox?
We are taken into a storey full of love, family, and emotions by this simple hook. The film takes you on a journey that you will never forget. What occurs, you might ask? You’ll have to see the movie to find out, won’t you? The Lunchbox is one of the top Hindi movies to watch on Netflix.
Queen (2014)
Queen is one of my all-time favourite Netflix Hindi movies. The plot centres around a typical family girl who has never ventured outside her comfort zone and has now decided to visit Europe on her own. The entire plot of the film revolves around what causes her to take this move and what occurs next.
The film is both humorous and heartbreaking. Kangana Ranawat, who plays the primary role Rani, delivers an outstanding performance in this film. This is one Netflix Hindi movie you will not be sorry to see.
PK (2014)
PK is a lighthearted and heartwarming story. The plot centres around an alien who has arrived on Earth but has misplaced his clothes as well as the only equipment he has to communicate with his spaceship. Amir Khan plays an alien who is having difficulty adjusting to life on Earth. The film takes on a variety of societal practises as well as religious superstitions. This is an excellent Hindi film that should be on your Netflix watch list.
Baahubali (2015) and Bahubali 2 (2017)
Baahubali and its Sequel Baahubali 2 is one of India’s most anticipated films, and rightly so. No other film has ever ended on such a cliff-hanger as Baahubali. The critically acclaimed S.S. Rajamouli directed the period drama starring Prabhas. While this isn’t strictly a Bollywood film, it was made in conjunction with Dharma Production, so I had to include it.
Masaan (2015)
Masaan is yet another low-budget Hindi film that will inspire you to trust in the power of free Hindi cinema. The film is divided into two parts that depict loss and how individuals cope with it. The storey deals with complex subjects of India’s social fabric and provides a nice viewing as well as a strong social message. The film, which starred Richa Chadda, Vicky Kaushal, Shweta Tripathi, and Sanjay Mishra, gained widespread critical acclaim for its moving tale and performances by the key actors. Masaan is by far one of the best bollywood movies on netflix from the past decade.
Drishyam (2015)
Drishyam is a narrative about a guy who will do anything to save his family and is based on the Malyalam super popular film of the same name. Ajay Devan portrays the lead character, and he really kills in this part. More information about this film would require me to reveal crucial storey details, which I do not wish to do. Just know that this is one of the best thriller films produced by Bollywood. Any list that says, best hindi thriller movies on Netflix and does not include Drishyam, is bogus.
Udta Punjab (2016)
Udta Punjab is a collection of stories about drug misuse in the rich north Indian state of Punjab, and how it has ruined the youth there. The film not only promotes a social cause, but it also features stunning performances by Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and others. This is not a movie for the faint of heart, so be sure you know what you’re getting into before you start watching it.
Budhia Singh: Born to Run (2016)
Soumendra Padhi’s Budhia Singh: Born to Run is a well-received biographical sports film. Budhia Singh, the world’s youngest marathon runner, is the inspiration for the film. Budhia completed 48 marathons at the age of five. Manoj Bajpayee plays a coach, and Mayur Patole plays the title role. It got a national award for best children’s film at the 63rd National Awards in 2016 because of the poignant plot and the great acting of Mayur Patole and Manoj Bajpayee.
Dear Zindagi (2016)
After Chennai Express, I started expecting decent movies from Shahrukh Khan, and I was partly correct. The release of Dear Zindagi, however, changed everything. It’s unusual to see Shahrukh in a story-driven plot these days, but Dear Zindagi is a must-see. This is a must-see film, propelled by an engrossing storyline and outstanding performances by Alia Bhatt and Shahrukh Khan.
Pink (2016)
Pink (2016), a wonderful Hindi film on Netflix, focuses on the patriarchal aspect of Indian culture, which is quick to condemn girls at every turn.
The film is elevated by Amitabh Bachchan’s outstanding performance as a retired lawyer who returns to practise in order to save three young women who have been implicated in a crime. If you prefer a good criminal drama, you will enjoy this one.
Mom (2017)
Mom is the final effort of Bollywood icon Sridevi, who died soon after The plot centres around a mother (Sridevi) seeking vengeance on a group of guys who attacked her daughter and escaped justice. While the film follows a by-the-numbers retribution plot, Sridevi’s excellent and heart-wrenching performance makes it worthwhile to watch. If you like her, you should surely add this Netflix Hindi film to your watchlist.
Bareilly ki Barfi (2017)
Bareilly ki Barfi, which was released in 2017, is a film that will tickle your funny bone in all the right places. The movie revolves around Bitti, a free-spirited small-town girl who lives her life on her own terms, and features a talented star cast that includes Ayushmann Khurrana, Kriti Sanon, Rajkummar Rao, and my favourite Pankaj Tripathi. The entire film revolves around what happens to her when she meets Chirag Dubey (Ayushman) and Pritam Vidrohi (Rajkumar Rao). This one is a total entertaining package.
Sanju (2018)
Whether or not you believe in the storey of Sanjay Dutt shown in this film, no one can dispute that it’s a terrific watch. Ranbir Kapoor plays Sanjay Dutt, and he does a terrific job. Ranbir has nailed everything To-a-T in this performance, from Sanjay Dutt’s voice to his body language. The film is also really entertaining. If you like superb individual performance, this is a terrific Hindi film to see, and it’s accessible on Netflix right now, so start watching right away.
Pad Man (2018)
Pad Man is the true storey of Arunachalam Muruganantham, who invented a low-cost sanitary pad solution in order to benefit millions of women in India. The main character is performed by Akshay Kumar, who is terrific on screen and portrays the difficulties and tribulations that Muruganantham faced in real life admirably. Of course, there’s some signature Akshay Kumar humour to keep you entertained. Overall, this is an excellent film to watch.
Manto (2018)
Sadat Hussain Manto’s life storey is told in Manto, a film about the controversial and troubled Indo-Pakistani writer Sadat Hussain Manto. The plot focuses on the writers’ artistic and censorship obstacles while developing their work. The main character, Manto, is played by the ever-awesome Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who gives one of his greatest performances yet. The plot is engrossing and will keep you hooked until the very end. I thoroughly loved viewing this film and strongly suggest it to all Netflix subscribers.
Madras Cafe (2013)
Madras Cafe, another excellent Netflix Hindi film, depicts the voyage of an Indian intelligence operative to a war-torn coastal island in order to break a tenacious rebel organisation and meet a passionate journalist. The film stars John Abraham, who gives one of his greatest performances in any film. Check out this film.
Margarita With A Straw (2014)
Margarita With A Straw is another film that features an outstanding individual performance. The plot centres around a young woman with cerebral palsy (played by the intriguing Kalki Koechlin) who relocates to New York to further her education. The film is about love and self-discovery, and you’ll enjoy watching it over the weekend.
The picture garnered favourable reviews and became a commercial success, generating more than 74 million dollars against a production budget of 65 million dollars. While Koechlin received the Screen Award for Best Actress and the National Film Award – Special Jury Award in Toronto, Bose received the NETPAC Award.
Gurgaon (2017)
Gurgaon, a Netflix original Hindi film, featuring an outstanding acting performance from its star cast. Pankaj Tripathi is really impressive in this film. The film’s narrative centres around kidnapping and is as engrossing as a crime thriller can be. The film focuses on human character and how cruel and dark we can be. Oh, and just when you think it’s a movie, remember that it’s based on a true storey.
Taare Zameen Par (2007)
Taare Zameen Par explores dyslexia and how parents who don’t understand their children can unwittingly damage their lives. It also emphasises the value of a good teacher in your life. The film is really emotional, and you may shed a tear or two. Aamir Khan and Darsheel Safary have both excelled and touched hearts with their outstanding performances.
Barfi (2012)
Barfi tells the storey of three people who fall in love and how their lives alter with each choice they make. Burfi, the main character, is played by Ranbir Kapoor, who gives one of the best performances of his career in this film. This film will cause you to rethink society’s definitions of abnormal and normal. This film is available on Netflix and will make you laugh, weep, and amuse you in the greatest way possible.
Stree (2018)
Stree, directed by Amar Kaushik, is an excellent blend of comedy and horror. The film is based on the Bangalore urban legend Nala Ba (come tomorrow) and focuses around a spirit who knocks on people’s doors late at night. It offers a compelling storey and stars national award winner Rajkumar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor. In addition, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee have performed admirably in supporting roles. In terms of box-office success, the film earned 280.76 crores against a budget of only 25 crores.
Kabir Singh (2019)
This is a must-see for Shahid Kapoor fans! The film, directed by Sandeep Vanga, is a remake of the Telugu film “Arjun Reddy” (2017, also made by Sandeep). The plot centres around Kabir Singh (Shahid Kapoor), a surgeon who becomes self-destructive when his girlfriend Preeti (Kiara Advani) leaves him. The film grosses over 379 crores at the box office, making it the second highest-grossing film of 2019. This is partly due to Shahid’s excellent acting.
Andhadhun (2018)
If you enjoy a good black humour crime thriller, Andhadhun will most likely win you over. The plot revolves around Akash (Ayushmann Khurrana), a pianist who pretends to be blind. When he witnesses the murder of a former film actor, his life becomes engulfed in a slew of issues.
Aside from Ayushmann, Tabu and Radhika Apte have important roles in the film. The interesting plot, combined with the loving melodies composed by Amit Trivedi, makes it a must-see for fans of black humour.
Kahaani (2012)
If you’re looking for a murderous mystery thriller, Kahaani is worth a look. Sujoy Ghosh co-wrote, produced, and directed the film, which depicts the lives of a pregnant lady (Vidya Bagchi) in her never-ending search for her missing husband.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui, in addition to Vidya Balan, has a big role in the film. It received great recognition for tackling topics of feminism and parenting in a predominantly male-dominated society. Furthermore, the narrative and cinematography were praised for their elegance.
Dangal (2016)
There aren’t many Bollywood sports films that are as memorable as Dangal. Mr. perfectionist “Aamir Khan” has excelled in his role as a former wrestler (Mahavir Singh) who trains his two strong-willed daughters, Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari, to win the gold medal he never earned. The film is largely based on the Phogat family’s tryst with the coveted Commonwealth Games medals and is set in the Indian state of Haryana. Aside from the tale, Pritam’s music and Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics are equally noteworthy.

Jaane tu Ya Jaane Na (2008)
Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is a comic love storey and one of Bollywood’s best feel-good films. When it was released in 2008, it became a teen hit, and it is still regarded as one of Bollywood’s best romantic comedies. The plot centres around two buddies who refuse to believe they love each other. And, in order to disprove the critics, they promise to find loving companions for one other. However, once they complete their objective, they gradually discover that they did, in fact, love each other. The plot is simple, but the comedy jabs and tunes are fantastic. If you adore Bollywood masala films, you will enjoy this one a lot.
Guru (2006)
Guru demonstrates that Abhishek Bacchan is not the inept actor that everyone believes him to be. The film is based on the life of Dhiru Bhai Ambani, the founder of Reliance Industries. It is not a biography, although it is heavily influenced by his life. It depicts the rise of a farmer who arrives to Bombay in 1958 and grows to become the country’s largest industries tycoon. The screenplay is excellent, and the casting is flawless. Abhishek Bachhan, who plays the main character Gurukant Desai, and Aishwarya Rai, who plays her wife, both deliver outstanding performances. When you combine Mithun Chakraborty, R. Madhavan, Vidya Balan, and other brilliant supporting actors, you get a captivating drama played by masterful actors and actresses.
Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran (2018)
“Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran” appears to be a good pick for anyone looking for a thrilling historical action drama film. Abhishek Sharma directs the film, which stars John Abraham, Diana Penty, and Boman Irani. If you haven’t guessed it yet, it’s based on the nuclear bomb test explosions conducted by the Indian Army at Pokhran in 1998 during the administration of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In a word, Parmanu is a tribute to the incredible bravery of the Indian Army and the steadfast scientists.
Kai Po Che (2013)
Kai Po Che is one of the best Bollywood films available on Netflix. On the surface, the plot revolves around three buddies who wish to establish a cricket academy in Ahmadabad. However, after you begin watching it, you will understand that it deals with far deeper topics of friendship, love, and life. Kai Po Che, based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel 3 Mistakes of My Life, is a must-see for any Bollywood fan. Abhishek Kapoor directs Kai Po Che, which stars Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh, Rajkummar Rao, Amrita Puri, and Asif Basra. Kai Po Che!, produced on a $300 million (US$4.2 million) budget, grossed $830 million (US$12 million) globally, becoming a critical and economic triumph.
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017)
“Toilet: Ek Prem Katha” has lived up to my expectations as a satirical comedy. And properly so, as the film offers a fascinating depiction of government attempts to improve sanitary standards in India, with the primary goal of eliminating open defecation.
The film succeeds in emphasising India’s bathroom problem with a terrific blend of love and comedy, thanks to an amazing cast lead by Akshay Kumar, Bhumi Pednekar, Anupam Kher, and Sudhir Pandey. As a result, it deserves to be included in this list of the best Bollywood movies on Netflix.
Tamasha (2015)
Tamasha is my choice for a modern love film that you are prepared to stream for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, this film is about Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s real-life ex-lovers. The film (directed by Imtiaz Ali) revolves around Ved Vardhan Sahni (Ranbir) and depicts his life in three stages: as a nine-year-old child, a 19-year-old adolescent, and a 30-year-old adult. Tamasha, with its A.R Rahman soundtrack and Irshad Kamil lyrics, will not fail to touch your heart if you enjoy romantic comedies.
Article 15 (2019)
Article 15 is a hidden treasure of a film. It depicts the caste system that is still prevalent in rural India. The film, directed by Anubhav Sinha, stars Ayushman Khurrana as an IPS officer. He is relocated to a rural area, where he tries to deliver justice to a strange case of missing girls while breaking social stereotypes.
The film’s title is derived from Article 15 of the Indian constitution, which prohibits discrimination based on religion, race, caste, gender, place of birth, or any combination of these factors. My favourite aspect of this film is that it lacks heroism. Ayushman Khurrana works with the resources he has and solves the case in the same way that any other police officer would.
Billu (2009)
I’ve been binge-watching all of Irfan Khan’s movies since the day he died, merely to recreate those moments. Billu is one of several films that I have enjoyed seeing numerous times. It tells the storey of Billu, a local barber who claims to be boyhood friends with Sahir Khan (a parody of Shahrukh Khan).
The film is plenty of humour while also building suspense surrounding Billu’s storey and whether Sahir Khan and Billu were pals as children. If you’re searching for a warm comedy to see on a Sunday afternoon, this is the film for you.
Chopsticks (2019)
Chopsticks is a Netflix feel-good Hindi film starring Abhay Deol and Mithila Palkar. Deol plays Artist, a conman who knows his way around Mumbai’s underbelly. Palkar plays Nirma, an introverted and insecure young lady. Their worlds collide when Nirma’s automobile is stolen and she seeks Artist’s assistance in recovering it. As the two begin their search for the automobile, they grow to admire each other’s opposing characteristics.
Rajma Chawal (2018)
Rajma Chawal is a comedy film starring Rishi Kapoor, Anirudh Tanwar, and Amyra Dastur that is named after the most popular North Indian dish. The Netflix film delves into a father-son connection following the death of the family’s grandmother. After the death of Kabir’s mother, Raj Mathur (Kapoor) and his son Kabir (Tanwar) return to their old family home. The child resents his father’s relocation and declines his friend request on Facebook. To communicate with his kid, Raj chooses to impersonate Tara (Dastur) and begins communicating with him through the phoney account. The events that follow are both amusing and uplifting.
Haraamkhor (2015)
Haraamkhor is about a connection between a teacher (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and his adolescent student (Shweta Tripathi). Shyam (Nawaz) is a schoolteacher who takes advantage of the circumstances of his student Sandhya (Tripathi) to start a romance.
Sandhya comes from a dysfunctional family (his father is a drunk police officer – there is no mother in the scene), and Shyam finds it easy to pique her interest. When Sandhya’s peers uncover the relationship, the storey becomes more complicated. It’s not a really good film, but Nawaz and Shweta give excellent performances, and you’ll have a good time watching it.
Dev D (2009)
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s masterwork Devdas (based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel of the same name) is a masterpiece that should never be remade. Its beauty is intangible and can never be captured. And, happily, Anurag Kashyap did not attempt to do so in his film Dev D. Instead, he has given the novel a modern spin and created a work of art.
Consider it the BBC’s Sherlock. It takes an old storey and puts it in the confines of current life. The storey adaptation as well as the music are both fantastic. You’ll be watching this one again and over.
Kapoor & Sons (2016)
The film, directed by Shakun Batra and produced by Karan Johar Kapoor & Sons (aka Kapoor & Sons Since 1921), is a family drama with all the characteristics of a fine drama. The film stars Sidharth Malhotra, Fawad Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ratna Pathak Shah, Rajat Kapoor, and Rishi Kapoor in an ensemble cast.
The film Kapoor & Sons is about two estranged brothers who are forced to reconcile with their dysfunctional family after their grandfather has a heart arrest. The film gained critical recognition as a result of its superb direction and notable performances. The film grossed 152 crore (US$23 million) globally despite being made on a 35 crore (US$5.2 million) budget.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is a light-hearted buddy road comedy-drama. The film, directed by Zoya Akhtar and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, stars Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol, Farhan Akhtar, Katrina Kaif, and Kalki Koechlin.
The plot centres around three childhood friends, Arjun, Kabir, and Imraan, who embark on a three-week road trip. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, which was made on a budget of 550 million (US$7.7 million), was a big hit, grossing 1.53 billion (US$21 million) and receiving critical acclaim for its performers, narrative, and soundtrack.
Soni (2018)
Soni is a Netflix original Hindi film about the lives of a young police officer in Delhi. She and her superintendent, Kalpana, work together to combat the city’s growing epidemic of violent crimes against women. However, their collaboration suffers a setback when Soni is transferred for alleged wrongdoing on the job. Her estranged husband also returns, adding to her woes. Critics praised the film for the performances of its two key characters as well as its outstanding direction.

The film is a remake of the 2016 Spanish film The Invisible Guest, produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Azure Entertainment. It grossed more than 138.49 crore (US$19 million) globally and became a great hit despite being made on a tiny budget of 10 crore (US$1.4 million).
Gangs of Wasseypur Part 1 and 2 (2012)
Gangs of Wasseypur is for those who enjoy seeing high-octane Hindi crime films. It’s a two-part criminal drama directed by Anurag Kashyap and co-written by Kashyap and Zeishan Quadri. The plot (which spans 68 years from 1941 to 2009) revolves around the Dhanbad coal mafia (Mafia Raj) and depicts underlying power struggles, politics, and terrible vengeance. The film, which starred Manoj Bajpai, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Richa Chadda, Huma Qureshi, and Tigmanshu Dhulia, was a commercial and critical success.
Kaminey (2009)
Kaminey is one of the most popular Hindi action films. Vishal Bhardwaj directed the film, which stars Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, and Amol Gupte. The drama is set against the backdrop of Mumbai’s underworld, and it depicts the rivalry of a pair of twins.
The film gained critical acclaim and grossed approximately $710 million (US$10 million) against a marketing expenditure of 350 million (US$4.9 million), owing primarily to the high-flying action scenes and great acting by Shahid. Notably, the soundtrack CD for the action film was a tremendous success, with the song “Dhan Te Nan” topping the charts.
Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota (2018)

The film stars debutant Abhimanyu Dassani, Radhika Madan, Gulshan Devaiah, Mahesh Manjrekar, and Jimit Trivedi and is directed by Vasan Bala and produced by Ronnie Screwvala.
